3rd Test at the SCG, Sydney, 7 Jan - 11 Jan 2021

As I said I'm sure it's not entirely our own doing. I have a couple of theories re the pitches since that dreadful 2015/16 summer and India reading the Australian batting like a pamphlet last time around, but my brain not good.
God Australian cricket was at the cusp of death when Ross Taylor almost made a triple hundred

Can we talk about Jadeja amidst all this doom and gloom from Aus fans ? Let there be some positivity.

Alright, we can probably combine it tomorrow with talk of his 60 ball 100.

Speaking of captaincy, Smith's post-stumps complaints about media commentary good demonstration of why he's a huge risk to give back the captaincy.

If he's bothered by that, how's he going to handle leading an Ashes tour?

As well as India did today, they've still got a huge mountain to climb to win this Test.

Australia were bowling serious quality in the last hour or so and are capable of doing it for hours on end.

And even if India do manage to get a decent lead, it feels like Smith is now in the mindset of batting and batting relentlessly as long as he gets a bit of a support.

And even if they were only to chase 150 or so, against this attack on a wearing pitch would be a big achievement.

Whatever it takes!!!

Seems Pujara and Rahane are intent on testing how many hours that is, lol. Neither seem to want to make a run and I hate how much batsmen were stuck at a bowler's end when we batted. Hopefully a more common sense approach is used tomorrow.

Bowls filth, gets wickets

I think they were just batting till stumps today. Making sure not to lose another wicket. If either of them got out trying any #intent stuff it could have sparked a collapse with just Vihari, Pant and Jadeja to come against a rampaging Cummins and some quality spin from Lyon.

They will almost certainly be more positive tomorrow. At least Rahane will. Che Pu gonna do what he do.

Marnus won't like this since he would have to face copers in the nets

Yeah. Super unfair to pick out Pujara for criticism I know but the guy has absolutely zero gears to his batting. Seems like he's become even dourer with age. Great when he stays in and makes 150 but not so much when he gets out for 20 off 150 (guess that makes a hypocrite of me). Not expecting him to be Gill or Kohli-like, but there's no impetus to any of his "strokeplay" these days.

Can Cameron Green's merits as a test player please be judged after a few series? (i.e 10/15 matches) He's obviously going to have a few low scores - just roll with it

Yep, in the euphoria of the epic triumph down under in 2018-19, many miss that Pujara hasn't scored heavily for a long time now.

In the last 2 years, he has scored 486 runs in 12 tests at average of 27(SR : 38).

He is still a valuable member of the team. Hopefully he turns around this period of mediocrity.

Some strange comments here; since when is no. 3 batsman required to have "different gears"? I hope Pujara scores 100 facing 300 balls and grinds bowlers to dust. Yes his lack of recent scoring is an issue but that doesn't have anything to do with his SR. I know people love Jadeja to score quick 50 and see that sword dance but who is tiring the bowlers and fielders in the first place?

It would be different if they are playing WI and batting like this; moreover it's not like India has embarrassment of batting riches down the order after these two.

it's been weird, abnormal even going so long without a smith century...in a way, it's good to see status quo being restored even if it is against us...

Looking forward to this day’s play, game in the balance following the Aussies collapse yesterday. Pujara getting his usual criticism for his scoring rate, but if he tons up today it won’t matter if it takes him 300 balls. I expect Rahane will certainly be more positive, Pujara will just get in his bubble and bat at his own tempo, don’t personally have an issue with that.

Not sure who’s going to get the big runs after these two, maybe a few cameos, need one of these to bat the majority of the day.

How did the Aussies bowl yesterday on the whole ?

The main thing about Green is that he has made runs against a pretty similar attack to this one. I suppose he just hasn't yet adjusted to the greater intensity of an actual test match.
