OK so who is better?

No question he's not world class. But who do we have instead?

Think He's likely the best cricketer we have for that allrounder slot. Maybe Kuggs is competition.
cdg and mitchell are far better players. if we must play a spinner at home then the selectors need to show some backbone and choose which pacer misses out.

also kuggs is no test #7

CdG Yes, Mitchell not sure.

No, we should basically never drop Jamieson or Wagner for a spinner at home, no matter how dry it looks. That is insanity.

Look I've never been a Santner fan but what exactly was the expectation here? He'd rip through the team? He'd sake more wickets than Yasir Shah?

He did a job and was fine. Also was gun in the field and his run out arguably won us the match

for the role they're effectively playing (batsman who bowls a few overs per day) mitchell is a lot better than santa. no comparison on the batting. mitchell actually has top order experience and can play the short ball for one.

im actually coming round to kippaxs high iq mcconchie if they must have a batsman who can bowl competent fc spin. ive watched him bat a bit now and he's far from the worst i've seen.

You think Mitchell would have taken wickets on day 5?

I don't think so.

hey lads, hope you're all well. Happy new year to you all. Haven't posted in a year or so.

quick question, is watling injured? i no the green top makes life difficult for a keeper but yesterday i have never seen a keeper drop so many balls.

the game meanders when he bowls and he's not a test #7. on turners the selectors need to toughen up and drop the lowest performer of the quartet for a test. he's the pink teams nathan mccullum, who rightly never played tests.

I have to disagree he was fine, for the majority of his overs he maybe bowled two in the right spot, the other four were either easily left, easily milked for one, or just absolute freebies for four. He’s got to be a lot more consistent with his line and length to succeed in test cricket.

He should at a minimum be able to create pressure at his end.

did santner? apart from a couple of bunnies that is.

he's indefensible as a test bowler. im sorry i hate to rag on him but he's a white ball bowler and that's it for now.

He had a hip injury but think he's OK now. That ball was doing all sorts once it went past the bat yesterday. Henry especially

Some balls got ridiculous bounce too. I think he took a few good takes.

Anyway I'm pretty sure Pakistan will fail to capitalise on the spice in the deck. 450 again.

Do we actually need to have the discuccion over Santner's ability with the red ball? I'd have thought the answer was pretty obvious by now.

If your argument is that he's not a test standard spinner then I agree - but he's not playing as a test spinner he's playing as a useful allrounder. Mitchell is not playing as a frontline seamer he's playing as an all rounder.

Also, I'm not sure what standard to hold him to here. Yasir Shah was also milked easily in that match and he walks into our team as frontline spinner.

on another note, where the hell has jamieson come from. he is a deadset weapon!
would kill it over at the waca in perth i reckon. spewing he wasn't in this kind of form for the test series last year in australia.

So far so good from our boys but the challenge is when the ball is like 10 overs plus old. With the new ball it's not predictable swing with shine still on both sides. Once one side of the ball gets a bit scuffed up the bowlers can control the ball way more.

Sometimes it helps to rather leave than score too many and scuff up the ball too much too early.

This is where you need gun swing bowler as a first or second change bowler.
