Talked about Henry needing to bowl quicker but plain old accuracy just hasn't been good enough either - too many balls that are simply not going anywhere but the boundary. Like those half-volleys.

Speaking of which, Boult is searching a bit when patience would be a better policy.

Mitchell has actually been one of the form Plunket Shield bowlers this season, he should have had the ball in his hand far earlier.

All the media/commentator/Stead talking up of Henry is really getting on my nerves. Heard so much about form, even Plunket shield form (he's only played one FC match this season, against a bunch of fresh Pakistan A touring team), being a class act etc... It's all rubbish. The truth is he hasn't played much cricket recently, hasn't been good enough in test matches to demand a spot as of yet. But he gets yet another chance with injuries of Wagner and Ferguson.

He's been unlucky for sure today, but is going at 5's, which isn't good enough regardless of being unlucky. I like Henry, but his release seems quite low which makes him an along the wicket bowler. Not bad with a new ball, but doesn't have enough after that.
CDG another who is injured, he'd have been far better as the third/fourth seamer with Jamieson.

if not playing a spinner i would have tried duffy for one test in ferguson's absence. i think we're kidding ourselves though if we don't admit matt henry is in the conversation for 6th best quick in the country. he hasn't been test standard but he's definitely a better option to fill in than bracewell, talented young kids and the rapist.
Does anybody else think that Mitchell as 4th seamer would have gone for less than 5 an over? And taken as many wickets as Henry?
theoretically we'll get an answer this test

And if he wasn't going to bowl on Day 1 he really shouldn't have been picked ahead of an allrounder who bowled spin, or a specialist bat.

I don't like the idea of picking five seamers at the best of times, but it's even worse when you just straight up don't use someone who wouldn't make the side on batting alone.

He did take 17 PS wickets in 4 games before Christmas (yes, I know pitches were green and PS batting wasn't great).
In this innings he has actually created opportunities. Those figures would look a lot more economical if the edges weren't flying to the boundary so often (the captain is allowed to put a fielder there). Boult on the other hand has bowled listlessly in dream conditions, no one seems to be pointing that out.

That’s Stead 101 though. He’s proven he isn’t test class but if you just bury your head in the sand and don’t pick anyone else how would you know if they’re better or worse?

This time a year ago Henry was picked for the Sydney test... No doubt you were saying you can’t pick Jamieson he isn’t ready?

Doull on radio pre-start was (politely) critical of the Henry selection, his preferred options were Nuttall (another opening bowler but left arm angle), Kuggs, Bracewell or Duffy (all able to do 4th seamer bounce role).

i see he got some nice figures last night, though i didn't watch the second innings.
Medium pace as though. His cousin who wasn’t a prospect at all five years ago is definitely bowling quicker then Zak now. Shame, such a talented athlete could’ve played either rugby or cricket professionally isn’t going to hit his potential due to those serious injuries.

TBH I'd go Henry over Duffy. Also has a low release and is an along the pitch bowler, but 5 km slower. And less bat.
