Ding ding ding. Most well rounded side so far. The format forced you to sacrifice strength in one area.

JOJOXI

International Captain
Gordon Greenidge (108)

Given I'm the only person with a pick in the 40s remaining I'll go with Stuart MacGill (44) to round off my team. Will do a full write up later.

JOJOXI's XI
1. Stewie Dempster (10)
2. Gordon Greenidge (108)
3. Kane Williamson (80) (C) (7)
4. Vijay Hazare (30) (6)
5. Aravinda de Silva (93)
6. Ben Stokes (67) (5)
7. BJ Watling (70) (WK)
8. Mike Proctor (7) (3)
9. Mitchell Starc (57) (2)
10. Stuart MacGill (44) (4)
11. Sydney Barnes (27) (1)

Total Games - 593

Pretty happy with my side - not much more Dempster could have done in his short career averaging 65 in his 10 Tests and over 88 in his 8 Tests v England. Gordon Greenidge one of the best openers ever to partner him and arguably New Zealand's greatest ever batsman in Williamson to give the side solidity at number 3. Lacking a 50+ averaging batsman in middle order but Hazare and Aravinda Da Silva very solid options at 4 and 5 - Hazare averaging 47 and Aravinda de Silva 42.97 - although in De Silva's case that average probably understates his quality a bit. Stokes an ever improving batsman and the type that can be a matchwinner, especially important given the quality of teams this team will be compared too - he certainly isn't a flat-track bully or basher of 'weaker' opponents. BJ Watling too has a knack of getting runs when they are most needed, combine that with Proctor at 8 and I think that gives us an extremely strong lower middle order. Starc can give it a whack at 9 too.

In terms of bowling think this is the strength of our side - Arguably the greatest bowler ever in Sydney Barnes and he will share the new ball with Mitchell Starc who excels in a variety of conditions and would be very dangerous with the new ball. Mike Proctor likewise showed his quality as a bowler in his few Tests against Australia - the fact he can bat too is just an added bonus. Was very happy with Stuart MacGill given I was eyeing him up from the start of the draft seeing him as the spinner I most wanted out of himself, Saqlain Mushtaq and Jim Laker from that 40-49 cap zone. Ben Stokes also gives us a genuinely attacking 5th bowling option which means if sides see off our main bowlers we can still attack the batsman without being forced into letting the game drift. Think we've also got good variety with one of the most 'unique' pacers in Sydney Barnes, left-arm angle with Mitchell Starc, legspin from MacGill, and the option of real attacking short bowling from Ben Stokes, add Proctor for company and think this is one of the stronger attacks. Additional options of Hazare and Williamson also hope not to go to them all too often.

I will take Ryan Harris (27) as my final selection.

Barry Richards 4
Bill Woodfull 35
Dean Jones 52
Ken Barrington 82
Allan Border (C) 156
Michael Hussey 79
Quinton de Kock+ 47
Ryan Harris 27 (2)
Bob Willis 90 (3)
Fred Spoffoth 18 (1)
Bishan Bedi 67 (4)

Total 657

Overall I'm quite happy with my side. Possibly the best batting lineup around with four of the best bowlers in history. Spin bowling is the biggest weakness of the side but it's not like Bedi was bad, just not up to Warne/Murali standards. The pace attack is top notch but the real highlight is the batting. Richards and Woodfull opening is as good as it gets for opening batsmen. Following that up with Jones, Barrington, Border, Hussey and de Kock almost feels excessive. Harris, Spoffoth and Willis make up an excellent all conditions pace attack.

4 of the best bowlers in history is stretching it a tad...
Maybe a little. I feel that Willis is underrated (90 tests averaging 25 is rarified air), Harris was as good as anyone while he was on the park and Spofforth was widely regarded as the prototype fast bowler.

Whatever it takes!!!
Both srbhk and michael are done with their 60's pick so i'll go ahead with Ian Redpath (66).

And then I am the only one left in the 80s bracket so i'll go with Ravi Shastri 80 to finish it off.

Overall, While the opening is on the weaker side, I think the middle order is pretty darn strong. Warne leads the bowling attack with some very special pacers to help him out, Sobers and Watson to provide the options when one of the main ones has an off day.

Interesting side, Serbie. Nothing really jumps out as a "weakness" even in an ATG setting. Maybe lacking a bit of the X factor but that is a side I would be glad to coach or captain and will feel confident of just about defeating any side I am put up against.

writeup: top four are all serious contender for their countries' all time XIs, two solid citizens to build on the runs they will pile on. Tidy wicketkeeper and two ATGs leading the attack, plus a spinner that took wickets in all conditions and Nissar who troubled many fabled 1930s batsmen with pace to the point that it took forty years before India had a pace bowler of similar calibre.

International Coach
Tich Freeman (12) to complete my team.

CricZo XI

Bob Simpson / o ©
Arthur Morris /
Rohan Kanhai /
Joe Root /
Stan McCabe /
Jack Gregory / o
Jeff Dujon + /
Amar Singh o /
Tich Freeman o
Joel Garner o
Glenn McGrath o

Simpson and Morris - legendary Aussie openers tolay a solid platform for Kanhai, Root, McCabe and Gregory to pummle the opposition. A fine fine wicket keeper batsman from West Indies, Dujon to do what he does the best.

Bowling line up that consists of McGrath, Garner, Amar Singh, Jack Gregory and Tich Freeman can surely take 20 wickets every game.

Overall a perfect team!

Sangakkara didn't get picked! Amazing! I was close to picking him but went for Waugh's captaincy and bowling.

Also interesting how many quality 100+ openers were left unpicked.

Picks of Barlow and a few other openers in that 30-39 cap zone scuppered my plans! Was angling towards AB de Villiers in middle order myself but yep so many class players in the 100+ cap club that got unpicked.
