The 80's and 90's were probably the strongest decades in terms of bowling depth (90's edges it because of more spin depth). These videos are really good.

Vids are good. Nice work there

Really hoped the still of Steyn was the CW meme one, but alas it wasn’t

And Murali spent >10x the time on top. Definitely surprised me.

Other thing that always stands out in any analysis without filters manipulations is how strong Shaun Pollock's showing is.
Most of the time Murali spent at #1 he was pretty much the best bowler in the world by a decent margin. It was pretty much all after McGrath and Warne had retired, capping off the last of the 90s greats outside Murali. Steyn basically took over after Murali's retirement and dominated the rankings until the injuries took over.

I was surprised to see that Cummins has already eclipsed a number of others like Anderson, though I guess Anderson always played second fiddle to Steyn.

I vaguely thought Johnson briefly got to No. 1 during 2014, but apparently Steyn held it all the time.

Not correct. The video clearly shows that almost half of Murali's time as #1 (about 800 of his total of 1,700 days) was before McGrath and Warne retired in January 2007.

Slight majority <> pretty much all

The video also showed that Warne spent almost no time ranked #1.

Often people like to say ‘Warne and McGrath’ as if they’re a single entity but there are measures by which McGrath made an impact and Warne didn’t. This is one.

Murali was first ranked ahead of Warne in 1999 and remained ranked ahead of him for the rest of both players' careers.
