Bess is a push-it-through type of offie isn't he? Needs to give it a lot more air.
Not so sure, myself. I guess it's the risk/reward conundrum.

He gives it quite a rip, bowls a very attacking line & gets bounce, but if he gives it more air he's likely to lose a bit of that bounce.

Bess is getting a lot of help but he is either too wide of off or too straight. Pitching just outside off and trying to hit off and middle should be the ideal line here, off a good length preferably, bringing the short leg and leg slip into play without ruling out the LBW and bowled dismissals.
Yep agreed.

What he's doing now might work as well though. He's coming wide on some deliveries so he can use the angle + rough to get leg slip and short leg in play.

Yeah, if he is unable to hit that line from his regular action, changing his delivery point is a good idea but batsmen get used to that. Usually the keener batsmen can even spot it the first time, but even if it was someone who can be mentally lazy, they can still get used to it once he does it few times through the course of a spell, its almost a reflex as a batsman to line up based on delivery point, especially for spinners. I think he has the tools to do some damage here, just needs to get his line right.

And from Windies PoV, gotta sweep him on length. He may get bounce on this track due to the track but he is not exactly getting the dip and bounce that can render the sweep risky. At least, it is less risky than lunging forward everytime IMO.

If WI could drag their first innings into the better part of the 1st session tomorrow, they'd be in a good position to draw.

Curran... with the cutter. Like I said, I back the kid to find a way in almost all conditions. England will be stupid to not let him be a permanent part of their plans. Has to be a regular once Anderson hangs up his boots.
