Your favourite nobodies

Loved some Blair Pocock back in the day ... ok, so his first stint in the test team wasn't very memorable, but he averaged 30 when came came back, which wasn't terrible in that era. Had some consistency and was unlucky not to get a hundred. Plus it was hilarious that his main scoring shot was slicing the ball through the point/gully region ... it was just poetry in motion. Some could have mistaken it for an outside edge, but he did it too much for it to be a mistake.

Samaraweera was so bad outside the SC that it came as a genuine shock when he bossed that one series in South Africa out of nowhere and even won them a test.

Not really a nobody given he was an excellent county batsman and played some good test innings, but he’s not someone who will be remembered too much.

John Crawley - found him to be an elegant player, loved his flicks through mid wicket and even enjoyed his cover drive and other shots like his cut against the spinners.
i'm pretty sure when playing with him for lancashire that murali said he was one of the best players of spin he had seen.

Being raised in Tasmania i have a few favourite nobodies.

Mark Ray
Keith Bradshaw
Stan Reid
Phil Blizzard.

A reason why we weren't much good then, although they gave their all, and you can't ask for more than that.

From a NZ domestic cricket point of view, Mayu Pasupati was pretty great.

Grahame Corling. A fast bowler who played Australia in the 1964 Ashes. Nothing special as a bowler but had a very fluid classical action with a very attractive twirling manner and is well in the running for the best action I've seen. Also apparently involved in the origin of the term 'sledging'.

International Captain
Amol Muzumdar. Admittedly achieved a lot domestically, but has to count among the most unlucky of batting careers for a Mumbai player, falling in the shadow of Tendulkar and Kambli as he did. Still beggars belief he didn't get to play a single game for India.
