The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Needs another all rounder too. Either Faulkner for Smith or Mitchell for Richards.
The main proof of concept is based upon the fact that Goddard bowled more than pretty much every other player in his side at the time, with his bowling economy being a whopping 1.64.

Well I assumed that was the point with the whole "isn't going to outright lose many matches" comment

to add on to the "smith at no. 7" argument, I think it would make a lot more sense for him to bat 3 if he's not going to open and have Kallis or Amla bat down the order. Amla would be more suited to middle-order than Smith IMO, and I'd even say Kallis is too.

I've thought about making all time XIs according to different selection policies. Say, one of those funky looking South African teams which had Symcox coming in at 9, except it's Aubrey Faulkner instead.

With that in mind
Mitchell 8
Goddard 6
Kallis 5
Pollock
Nourse
De Villiers
Procter 4
Faulkner 7
Pollock 1
Steyn 3
Donald 2

International 12th Man
You can add Eddie Barlow for one more allrounder (and Clive Rice if that's in scope...) You never know when that 7th and 8th seamer will come in handy.

nz allrounder xi. not bad tbh.

geoff rabone
bevan congdon
roger blunt
giff vivian
john reid (wk)
chris cairns
jacob oram
colin de grandhomme
daniel vettori
richard hadlee
bruce taylor

due to the disparity in tests played between modern and ancient nz players i'm adhering to a bit of an honour system here rather than hard qualifications. basically no 6th bowlers or blokes who never batted higher than #8

Going to again promote Sydney Smith, if he's regarded as eligible for New Zealand.

There's some decent seeds to get him out in that montage, aren't there? Quite a few decking away oon a good line and length - so hard to play, And that couple he had duck back in. FMD he was a great great bowler. Called out the best players and more often than not got them out.

Yeah. Pretty much the same length for each of these dismissals, the ball just did something differently every time. Awkward bounce, movement both ways. Masterful stuff.

McGrath was the only bowler who you knew Sachin didn't have good odds against, Hansie ****ing Cronje aside
