phillips is a good choice and i forgot him. i was/am a skeptic based on how he handled amir but it looks like he's put some serious work into his game/shamelessly plagiarised steve smith.
Unlike Smith though, Phillips will never have to make his evasive action more elaborate and theatrical to win a leg bye off an umpire, that's for sure. :p

We watched Astle bowl in the nets during the lunch break on the 3rd day. He was beyond terrible, he legit looked like a club bowler. Didn’t land a single delivery in 20 mins. An old Aussie guy in front of us got up and left saying something like ‘I can see why they play Santner’

Astle isn’t anywhere near good enough
Gee this is interesting. Even more frustrating that they don’t have Patel and have only just added Somers to the squad.

Wonder how all the sickos will pull up today? Would love to see Phillips debut. And crush it. Can he bowl spin?

these illnesses could be a blessing in disguise. After watching blundell one can't help but think there might be a bit of stagnation in the camp after years of (admittedly successful) conservative selection, some fresh blood is just what we need.

This test looks like a bit of a **** show already. Overshadowed by bushfires, NZ yet to score runs in the series and two best batsmen now ill. Wouldn't mind Phillips getting a debut of course. At least the extreme heat forecast for day 2 has reduced significantly.

Thought the main NZ talking point would be NZ's bowling attack, but that was before the illnesses hit. Most obvious and sensible attack would be Wagner, Southee, Henry, Somerville, CDG. Though you could throw Astle/Jamieson in there for novelty/interest factor, if not effectiveness.

Phillips for most wickets amongst NZ spinners for the series?

That’s the thing we’re just starting to see now. Very conservative selections due to comparatively good results against average to poor teams. Then we come up against a team that we struggle against who are in pretty good form, and we’re shown up. Expecting the same formula to work. Which is what happened at the World Cup, and we all but won the thing even though we looked shaky at times.

All of Williamson, Nicholls, Southee and Boult out? Jesus christ (though Southee is the only real shock there)

I'm anticipating an absolute bullying of Glenn Phillips.

I'm hoping for absolute wallops and a triple from him.

I actually thought we'd play quite well this test, but Christ alive, five changes?! Reckon Somerville will go pretty well, but not high hopes for the rest.

If Raval's in, does he open with Blundell down to 5? What a mess.
