From what I've seen Weekes is generally rated ahead for being less of an HTB. Chanders should be around soon because of his low RPI and SR.

Mm I’ve seen him been called out for more minnow bashing than Walcott, quality opposition and away record stats should be interesting comparisons between the two.

Weekes, Chanderpaul, Dravid, Sutcliffe, Waugh should be next 5.

But there can be surprises like Chappell earlier.

My main criticism of Waugh is that he should have batted in top 4 position. His average of 50 is boosted by lots of not outs. He was superior test batsman to Mark Waugh yet he batted below him . Imagine Tendulkar batting below
Laxman or Lara batting below Hooper . This is my opinion. You may disagree.
Tendulkar never moved from four no matter how badly the team may have needed him to. Apparently this is a strength.

The difference between batting average and RPI for Steve Waugh is 9 . That is almost 18% of his batting average. Let's wait for 1 more week . We will know where he stands.
here we go with the nonsensical "not outs boost averages" **** again

No way. Sir Everton Weekes - Performance Analysis by venue Home / Away - Test Cricket Sir Clyde Walcott - Performance Analysis by venue Home / Away - Test Cricket

And similar home stats. Weekes is the greatest 'W' in batting IMO.

And Worrell is overrated away compared to Weekes: http://www.howstat.com/cricket//Statistics/Players/PlayerHomeAway.asp?PlayerID=1940.

I believe it has more to do with the fact that most of weekes ' good away performances were vs weaker teams. Ditto Walcott.

Don't waste your time. Clearly the that poster has some sort of agenda where he can come up with all sorts of illogical arguments. FWIW if Waugh owes his 50+ average to not outs, then so does god aka SRT. His rpi is 48 which is about a little over 10% less than his career average.

Just relooked Weekes Carter and really they aren't half bad. 40+ vs all teams except England against whom he averaged 39. Away to Australia and England he appeared to struggle but that's not quite true imo. He did well in the 1950 series going at 50+ against an attack that at times had the likes of laker and bedser. In 57 vs imo a more potent attack he really struggled. Had to deal with the likes of Trueman, stratham, lock etc. So one very good series and one very poor one away to England. Vs Australia now well he only played them away once. And I know for a fact that he was bounced mercilessly by Miller and lindwall. See what wagner is doing to smith now but without helmets or bouncer restrictions and from both ends. Never got the chance to go back to correct that blemish. So yeah overall not too shabby from the great sir Everton.

I don't get how what sunilz said is illogical. Averaging 50 without not outs is objectively more useful to a team than averaging 50 with not outs because you're scoring more runs for the cause in the former. You can disagree that it shows who's a better batsman but in terms of output there is a pretty obvious difference.

I'm curious about kallicharan, amarnath and hazare, DoG. Thought they'd all sneak in due to one reason or another, especially amarnath because of the away record.

Weekes also suffered from a serious leg injury on his tour to Australia where he was basically batting on one leg. He understandably struggled in that series

Whatever it takes!!!
AB was easily the most amazing batsman when on song. And someone who served his team by keeping wickets when he could have easily said no. Its a shame his body and mind could not co-operate but FMD people post as if he played for just 5 years or something. He is easily one of the greats and ATGs and is honestly slightly lower than I would have thought in this exercise. But amazing amazing batsman and brilliant fielder and very good wicket keeper. Can easily make a play for an ATG XI. Just greatness and awesomeness all around. Seems like a very wholesome and likeable dude too, so that helps as well.

No.20

Shivnarine Chanderpaul (West Indies) 820

Quality Points: 724
Career Points: 96

Career/Runs: 1994-2015, 11867 (rank 5)

Overall average/Runs per innings/Strike-rate: 50.12 (51.37) 41.34 (42.38) 40.62 (43.32) (rank 37)
50 Innings Peak Average/Runs per innings/Strike-rate (2011-2014): 71.10 49.77 41.81 (rank 25)
Non-Home Average/Runs per innings/Strike-rate: 44.76 38.06 41.81 (rank 80)
Quality Opposition Average/Runs per innings/Strike-rate: 50.07 42.78 41.28 (rank 34)

A great servant for West Indies cricket, Shivnarine Chanderpaul played until the age of 40, an extremely rare thing in the 21st century. His long service is reflected in his being ranked 5th in career points. What is also apparent in the stats however is that Chanderpaul usually batted below no.4, especially during his peak years and thus accrued a lot of unbeaten innings as his teammates were got out around him. His peak RPI is only 70% of his peak average, which points to the fact that his runs did not have as much impact on the matches he played as a high average suggests. This, coupled with his low strike-rate, give weight to the accusations from some that Chanderpaul was somewhat selfish and didn't change gears when the situation demanded it. Or perhaps he was doing his best to dig in for his country. He also once scored 100 off 72 balls against Australia. This anomaly, together with his awkward-looking front-on stance, make Chanderpaul one of the most enigmatic batsman of the modern era.
