Yeah I'm just theorizing, but feel that the trajectory of where the ball is coming from (bowlers release point) could have an impact on how it will react off the wicket? For example Wagner's pace is comparable with Sam Curran on the gun, yet I think the latter would really struggle to be that hostile

theyve got the pace as it travels on fox. I think cummins was arriving at 113kph and southee at 105kph in a graphic i saw but those could be numbers from my brains backside.

pace off seems far more awkward than media give credit for tbh. cdg/philander/southee etc have made a career off batsmen fiddling in the corridor.

if anything batsmen love solid good length 135kph with no movement.

Whatever it takes!!!
Point is, even that pace is not always the best indicator, coz when the bowler bangs it in short, as a batsman you tend to react a certain way, irrespective of what the speed gun is telling.

From an NZ perspective the only real thing you can say is Wagner is an immense player. Aus probably would've finished at 550/5 if it hadn't been for him. 197 wickets at 26.5 now. It's a shame, that year when he fell out of vogue with the selectors has almost certainly cost him the chance to push for 300+ career wickets. At least all the idiots in the Stuff comments section will shut up about how he could never take wickets against Australia.

Big day for Tom coming up. He can either make Flem eat **** or he can spend the rest of his career taking pot shots about how Raval was a better player of fast bowling than him.

Wagner is such a beast.
Was wondering earlier today where people would put him in a pecking order of Australian bowlers. Intrigued to hear especially from Aussie fans where they rate him compared to their own bowlers. A test record similar to Hazlewood's although the latter has been hyped more during their career and stats aren't everything.

Behind the big 4.

So honestly I'm glad he's a kiwi. It means he gets an extended run at international cricket, which he wouldn't have had over here.

he's better than them all bar cummins and maybe starc
Nah.

He’s a good player no doubt, but more of a one trick pony. A very effective one trick pony mind you.

Hazlewood is getting better and better, he finishes his career better than Wagners imo.

So yet again we're in a virtually unwinnable position with under half the test played. It'll take a minor miracle just to survive for a draw from here. It's deja vu all over again.

I didn't think the Australians here liked starc a few months ago. Now he is in a different league to Wagner who has averaged about 20 in the last 2 years?

Feels a bit humid this morning - and just a couple of drops of rain, which I don't think will come to anything. Might swing a bit in the first hour. Stating the obvious, but we really need to bat all day, make the Aus bowlers suffer in the heat which we couldn't do in Perth.

Starc has bowled superbly this summer. If only he’d played more in the ashes, it would have been three or four blot, and a more accurate reflection of the gulf in class between the two sides.

much like other countries, the beta subset of aus fans go like this:

'starc (or whoever) is bowling puss, how does he even average under 30 lol'
*neutral or oppo fan notes that some non-aus quick could be better than critcised aus player*
'this attack is the bestest lol not even close'

the exception are the indians who just seem mildly stoked to have a world class attack

with philanders impending retirement aus are the class of the field but we're blessed to see so many quality bowlers again around the world
