Must admit I'm very surprised to see any balls moving off the straight that much with a 34 over old ball.

Decent pace from Wagner too, pretty consistently in the mid 130's, great stuff after 12 overs bowled in 40 degree heat. That's the kind of pace Southee needs to operate at if he's going to be more than just a passenger on this tour.

I getthe impression this is a bit two paced. And the NZ change bowlers have done a great job exploiting it with changes of pace, cutters etc. I fear ferguson may go the journey though as the extra page actually helps. Shall see.

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Recently played in Perth and the consensus local opinion is that the WACA is just about the only quick pitch in the state

Virtually every other one is slowish and/or 2 paced

This seems to sum up this one

Shame that they couldn’t have redeveloped the WACA

Reckon a bit of the slowness at the start was simply the moisture in the pitch, and it'll quicken and harden by the end of the day
