Could be Gooch. Wouldn’t shock me if it was Cook.Gooch above Simpson is rather interesting. He's next.

Hobbs will get a big boost for his very high pre-war average.I feel Sutcliffe will be placed above Hobbs. A better average and scored more centuries in 18 less innings. I heard Sutcliffe was better at playing under more pressure.
Root, Warner, Kanhai, Clarke, Lloyd, Boycott, Border. I think that leaves one, maybe someone out of left field like VogesThis is now that we start guessing all the remaining names?

Great. That's everyone!Root, Warner, Kanhai, Clarke, Lloyd, Boycott, Border. I think that leaves one, maybe someone out of left field like Voges
He averaged 39 against WI. Certainly not gigantic. You could call it reasonable or decent or good.I have a feeling that Border will end up rated far higher than most people think. He was gigantic during the 80s facing some of the best bowlers in history.
The away record will certainly helpI have a feeling that Border will end up rated far higher than most people think. He was gigantic during the 80s facing some of the best bowlers in history.
But strike rate and not outs won't His RPI is lowThe away record will certainly help
People tend to score fewer runs against bowling attacks filled with really good bowlers. Funny that.He averaged 39 against WI. Certainly not gigantic. You could call it reasonable or decent or good.

I think you'll find that he scored the second most runs at the highest average (5+ tests) against the Windies in the 80s.
If you extend it to his whole career(1978-1994), not just 1980s, Gavaskar, Gooch, Boon, Vengsarkar all averaged better than him (with a 1000 runs cutoff).Relatively speaking.
