People tend to score fewer runs against bowling attacks filled with really good bowlers. Funny that.

I think you'll find that he scored the second most runs at the highest average (5+ tests) against the Windies in the 80s.

If you extend it to his whole career(1978-1994), not just 1980s, Gavaskar, Gooch, Boon, Vengsarkar all averaged better than him (with a 1000 runs cutoff).

Not saying TOTAB will fall behind Gooch for instance in this exercise, but this is not the metric Border is going to come good.
Look at his overseas record, and you do have a point.
