Well, it's well known that the show is produced by the E, not FOX, so...

In any case, an in-ring return will happen. Probably a way down the line yet. But it'll happen.
My understanding is that the deal to have Punk on the show is between Fox and Punk, not WWE and Punk.

This is what the journos appear to be reporting, anyway.

Yeah sorry Prez, I got this one wrong.

There is no way this happens without the full blessing and support of the E though.

Yeah, Fox wouldn't have gone ahead without consulting WWE.

That said, it does mean that WWE has been able to distance itself to a degree, and would make a Punk return less likely than would otherwise have been the case.

He probably will return though. I just think it'll be a while before it happens. I've seen people talking about Royal Rumble but I don't think that's gonna happen. If that was the plan, you wouldn't have brought him onto FOX at all; rather make it a complete surprise.

it'll happen. The fact that Punk is working with the E in any capacity shows how tensions have eased, and suggests he probably needs the income. With that being the case, the big Saudi Money paydays will no doubt be very attractive to him.

I get that he may need money, and so the WWE is a good option for him, but I can't see him going to the Saudi Arabia shows. He just doesn't feel like the sort of person who'd go.

I find it hard to take him seriously after his MMA stuff. Plus he's an unathletic 41-year-old at this point, I doubt he'll be nearly as good as he was 6 years ago

I doubt he's forgotten how to talk, that was always his greatest strength. He could walk in tomorrow and instantly be better than everyone else on the mic.

Don’t agree with that at all. Punk is good on the stick but it’s because he actually got to cut promos that weren’t awfully scripted shite. He probably would still get more leeway than anyone else on the roster but I earnestly think the likes of Joe, Owens, Wyatt, Miz, Zayn, Lynch and all of the New Day are excellent promos. Hell look at Balor, couldn’t cut an interesting promo to save his life on the main roster, returns to NXT for five minutes and everything he says has meaning.

WWE Scripting style has only really helped get 4 of the current roster over imo. Miz, Bliss, Elias and Strowman (get these hands), it holds back everyone else.

Who said any of the guys you mentioned aren't good mic workers? Saying punk would be the best at it should be very uncontroversial, the guy is up there with some of the best ever when it comes to promos let alone today.

I'd love to see him and Joe go back and forth.

And more over than everyone apart from Becky Lynch as well.

Who also, btw, is not someone whose promo work has been held back by the E's creative directors or whatever. Not that every promo of hers is good, or doesn't make you roll your eyes a bit, but she's good most of the time imo, especially by E standards.

The Usos also worth a mention. Great on mic, when not in jail or whatever. Kevin Owens another.

Well this is just flat-out wrong. As previously highlighted, Punk was afforded liberties on the mic (or flat-out just took them) that other stars just aren't privy to these days.

Punk was great on the mic, but he wasn't definitively better than the likes of Zayn, Owens, Balor, Styles (check out their Bullet Club stuff for reference), Bryan, Miz, Joe, Elias etc.

Not that I'm saying that the above are definitively better than Punk either; just that you can't say that Punk was clearly better than all of the above and expect no controversy.

So you think Punk is uncontroversially better than every single name on the list I provided on the mic?

Cool story.

I dont think its uncontroversial to say he's the best. I never implied it needed to be by some massive margin.

Anyway, talking of great mic work, caught up on the last few weeks of aew today and that MJF promo, holy ****ing ****. So good. jericho as great as ever too obviously. Think I might start to watch wrestling a bit more regularly now.

???

Presuming you typo'd the latter, the fact that two people in this thread have already contested that Punk would clearly and uncontroversially be the best mic worker in the WWE, you'd think that that would be sufficient so show that there would be at least some controversy surrounding such a statement.

I'm not even saying that Punk wouldn't be the best; just that it wouldn't be clear cut and uncontroversial.
