The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

I would rank Donald on par with Ambrose if not slightly better.

Donald underperformed against Australia while Ambrose underperformed against India and Pakistan.

Ambrose had a superior average while Donald had a superior strike rate.

Personally, I found Donald more devastating and his superb performances on Asian pitches made him the slightly better bowler IMO.
On the fear factor , which one of these guys is more intimidating?

Yeah the umpires hammer them too far into the turf these days. Either that or it must have something to do with the cameras/microphones.

Ambrose had a peak that was unmatched by any other fast bowler in modern times. Donald was faster and more devastating on a more consistent basis.

Ambrose took 5 wickets every 8 innings. Donald took 5 wickets every 6 innings.

People remember Ambrose more than Donald because of his intimidating physique and once-in-a-lifetime spells. As someone who watched their entire careers, I felt Donald was slightly better. Just my personal opinion.

While Jadeja limited his sword dance to the cricketing field, Verity was a hero in real life. Salute to him. In cricket achievements, their test records are neck and neck but Verity's much superior first class record overshadow's Jadeja. So fair enough. Jadeja scores ahead as a batsman though.

Verity also has the distinction of dismissing Bradman the most times in tests, 8. Presuming they go up against a right handed XI, that could help.

Unrelated but I remember a couple of months ago seeing a website where someone had done strike rates for older batsmen, among other things... though I can’t find it now. Anyone know of this site?

Sehwag basically scoring 300 in a day against murali is something that he'll get much more credit for many years from now. Outrageous innings.

That was a flat wicket IIRC. His 201 in Galle was amazing.
For sure, it needs to be flat to do something like that but it wasn't a complete highway. Sri Lanka could only manage 300 odd in both innings.

It's just that Bradman scoring 300 in a day is held up as this extraordinary achievement, when really what sehwag did purely in terms of rapid scoring was even more impressive. He got 284 in 79 overs which boggles the mind.
