Shakib banned for failure to disclose approaches

Ah okay, kinda thought the whole site universally hated Hansie, Azhar and Amir. My mistake.

People know my stance on fixers not being monsters, hopefully this happening to a really popular loved player changes people's attitudes
I don't think Shakib or any match fixers are monsters as people.

I think, like many people do, that he absolutely deserves a second chance at life and success after he's served his time. Just not in cricket.

A fixer can't ever be allowed to return to cricket and succeed from it because it sends the wrong message to all soon-to-be fixers. It tells them they can corrupt the game, get caught, and still come back and make a legit living from it. And that's just not acceptable when we are trying to deter people from ruining the sport we love. People who fix should never be allowed to set foot on any cricket field on the planet, let alone ever be involved in cricket in any sort of formal capacity.

But hey, if a guy like Salman Butt wants to move into the real estate industry and cuts all his ties with cricket then fine by me. I wish him the best of luck at it. I may not buy a house from him, but I won't begrudge those who do, and wouldn't consider him a monster solely on the basis him having fixed some games.

Unfortunately, at the end of the day, cricket -and professional sport in general- is run more like a business than a sport. Often time integrity gets sold down the river in the name of profits. And that's why people get so pissed off when fixers get allowed to return to the sport. Especially if it's just because of how 'young' and/or 'talented' they are. If anything that now encourages kids to get into fixing when they're really young, because there might be a way back for them if they can blame it on an adult, and also incentives the really talented players from small teams.

I still sympathise with Amir tho, but I can see why many do not. And a lot of people are going to lump Shakib in with Cronje, as you suggest. And I can understand that too.

I can see there being a bit of an uproar if Shakib returns to play for BD in a year. Especially if you read the texts he sent with this bookie. It's not just an unreported approach - Shakib fully had conversations with this guy, and this guy would text him asking for information that he could use to set bets with. I'm surprised they don't have anything more concrete to pin him on if this is what they do have.

It's not strange at all. I always come in here to call people cheats when they have cheated. This is literally the most unstrange thing I could have posted!
He didn't cheat tho?

Why are you trolling Sledger.

Actually why do I even ask.

Bangladesh and low cricketing IQ, what an iconic pair.

Glad he's banned, it's like Darwin Award level of stupidity.

IMO fixers are far worse than ball tamperers, at least ball tamperers are trying to win a contest. Fixing is woeful and a low low act

Yea I didn't read that correctly first time. Seems like he'll only be out for 1 year as long as he co-operates.

Mods to correct the thread title plz (also it should be conduct not con)
But should it?

Very disappointing for BD cricket and its fans. Bloke had an amazing WC and was miles ahead of his team mates across all formats as a performer.

Wouldn't a better comparison be when McCullum didn't disclose an approach for like a few years?

Will always have a cloud over him now. It's a shame. People will rightfully wonder whether he just under performed while doing his not-good-enough best in all those BD collapses, or whether he wasn't trying. His WC though, was awesome in every way. Wonder if he knew it was going to be his last hurrah and he therefore had a go.

He's scheduled to play in October 2020. Won't miss that much cricket at all really.

That's not how I'd see it. He failed to report, nothing more that we know of - right? Sort of like Steve Smith. He failed to report that cheating was going to happen. He wasn't directly involved in it, nor did he do enough to shut it down. And will Smith have a cloud over him forever? He shouldn't. Nor should Al Hasan.

Of course Smth will have a cloud over him forever. The difference, I suppose, is he was tangentially involved in trying to win instead of the opposite. It seems Al Hasan wasn't simply ignoring these messages, he was actually replying to the bloke.

You'd also be a dud bookie to think you needed to get BD to throw a match.
