Tbh I wouldn't have it in the top 20 of the Emery era. It was just a par for the course performance for Arsenal given it was an away match to a side who knew what they were doing.

A weird aspect of the CL's VAR system has just been noted by Mark Goldbridge. Chelsea had an attack, resulting in a shot on goal and ultimately a corner. During the build up play, Chelsea had an offside pass, which, if the chance had been scored, would've resulted in an Ajax free kick after VAR checked it. But because it was missed, the corner stood without VAR checking it. Weird series of events.

When Liverpool attack well, it's like watching how an online FIFA player tries to play. So many tricks and skills, but with purpose to it all. Firmino's Rabona through ball in tight space to Mane before the disallowed goal was a thing of beauty.

Sorry for this post chain, but it's nice to see Oxlade-Chamberlain getting some goals. I was quite endeared to him with the way he improved shortly before he got that long term injury a couple of years ago, so it's nice to see him do well now.

Yeah so this is actually another way in which VAR is terrible.

Take Mané's disallowed goal on Saturday - he's through on goal, but he handled the ball when taking it down and the referee missed it. So what should he do? There's no point trying to score, because it'll be ruled out. His best move is to end that "phase" of the attack in as beneficial a way as possible. Maybe he should try to play the ball off a defender for a corner? Or turn around and try to play it back to his own goalkeeper and rebuild from there? What if United spotted the handball too? Do they start trying to show Mané towards the United goal?

That sounds like a crazy situation haha. It get's weirder when you consider how Mane would react when the United players start showing him to their goal. Does he chase them around? At that point, you've gone from the usual thing of defenders often chasing the attacker to the attacker chasing the defenders.

I think this might be overthinking it a little tbh. I mean, in that situation, with a split-second to decide, I suspect most players would just take the "**** it I'll have a go and stick it in the net and just see what happens" approach. No real time to perform a detailed calculations re: all the possible VAR permutations etc.
