Australian Domestic Season 2019/20

So if Khawaja had have played the other two and got ducks in them he would have made the team?

He's made two hundreds in as many innings and is 4th on the overall run scorers despite playing half the matches.
If I was picking those who haven't played all the games, Khawaja would replace Stoinis and Patto would replace either Conway or Faulkner. The one problem with that though is I really don't trust Henriques with the ball

With the Shield kicking off next week, thought i'd try and predict how I think the states will lineup. I've left out the Redbacks as I don't really follow them and are unsure whether they'll blood youth or play the experienced guys (Cooper/Ferguson). Would love some insight and your own predicted lineups.

Warner
Hughes
Smith
Henriques
Patterson
Nevill
J. Edwards
Starc
Abbott
Lyon
Hazlewood

VIC:
Maddinson
Harris
Pucovski (or Short)

Maxwell
Finch
Harper (assuming Gotch still injured)
Pattinson
Tremain
Boland (siddle rested)
Holland

QLD:
Burns
Renshaw
Khawaja
Labuschagne
Hemphrey
Heazlett
Peirson
Neser
Gannon
Steketee
Swepson

TAS:
Silk
Jewell
Doolan
Wade

Hemphrey's an interesting one because he'd have to play as an overseas player now. I mean they could do that if they wanted to but states tend not to bother unless the player in question is a gun.

**** Hemphrey if his loyalty has changed. Not a good enough player to be taking a spot away from a young local batsman. Wildermuth isn't even in that side and he'll be one of the first picked for Qld, probably bat no. 6.

Yeah I think they'll go with that lineup except Heazlett up one and Wildermuth in for Hemphrey.

Surely Cartwright will bat ahead of Stoinis and MMarsh for WA in the Shield? You want to see those pads being blown off early in the day rather than later.

tbf Hemphrey probably is a gun compared to the alternatives, and he is still listed as a member of the Bulls squad. Still no Mason Crane though.

And Sandhu's probably behind someone else at Tasmania. Not sure who, but he never seems to be first choice.

Not sure if Wildermuth is fit though? Gannon can GAGF too

As for South Australia, really I'm not entirely sure what way they will go. Got quite a few injuries on the bowling side of things, not sure who's traveling well for the first game and who is still a fair way off

1. Weatherald
2. McInerney/Dalton/who ever makes a few in grade on the weekend
3. Head (C)
4. Ferguson
5. Lehmann
6. Cooper
7. Carey (WK)
8. Mennie?
9. Zampa
10. Winter
11. Richardson/Robins

I would strongly consider leaving out Zampa and going in with 4 seamers plus Head, but I doubt that will actually happen

Oh yeah Gannon may not be a 'local' either now, given his new lease on life as a T20I player for Trump's America.

Pope over Zampa, maybe? I think the red ball Zampa experiment needs to be put out to pasture once and for all.

Probably go an extra bowler? I'd say Valente but he's been pretty awful in the Shield so far.

Is Richardson really fighting for a spot with someone. Thought he'd be almost the first bowler picked he's got quite a high profile compared to Winter.

I've been thinking that for years, so have many over here, typical SACA always the last to realise these things though. Pope is still pretty raw, he's going to have his off days, but he's a genuine wicket taker and that is what we have lacked for years from our spinners

Possible, very possible. I like Valente but he has really been a bits and peices man at Shield level so far, he would definitely be in the selectors thoughts I would imagine. Would like st see more from his batting, did average 90 in grade last season generally batting 3 or 4

He hasn't really been a Shield regular over the last few years. I would certainly pick him, been bowling well of late, but when you consider they have overlooked him for absolute spuds like Nick Benton before nothing is certain

Go back to Richardson at 3 imo, with Ferguson inexplicably opening to make room without dropping Cooper.

Does Strikers stalwart Jono Wells ever get a gig in shield
Yeah very often. He was a miserable joke in it for years but improved after moving from Tasmania to WA. Definitely won't be playing for SA if that's what you mean though because he's never lived there.

Top-order batsman Henry Hunt, and fast bowler Wes Agar could debut in South Australia’s Marsh Sheffield Shield opener against Victoria starting next Thursday.

Hunt, 22, was recruited this year as a rookie after a standout Toyota Futures League campaign with ACT/NSW country, where he made 737 runs at an average of 46.06 and a high score of 208.

The right-hander also made another four half-centuries in the second XI competition, to mark his spot as the leading run-scorer.

Right-arm quick Wes Agar has also had a strong pre-season since returning from Victoria, earning two more one-day caps in games against Queensland and Tasmania.

“We recruited Henry as an opening batsman who has dominated in the second XI competition so we are excited to see what he can do in first-class cricket,” West End Redbacks Head Coach Jamie Siddons said.

“Wes has looked quite impressive in the pre-season and he adds pace and bounce to our attack, so we are pumped to have him in his first Shield team.”

Tom Cooper has earned a recall to the side after showing strong pre-season and Marsh One-Day Cup form.

Chadd Sayers and Joe Mennie are not included in the travelling squad. Sayers has returned to full intensity bowling since sustaining a lower back injury last month but is not yet available for selection, while Mennie is recovering from a hamstring strain.

Daniel Worrall is also back bowling with the possibility that he could make his return to competitive cricket by the Marsh Cup match on November 17.

Opening batsman Conor McInerney has only recently recovered from a broken arm and Saturday will be his first competitive game for Premier Cricket side Woodville.

The match begins at 10:30am (local) at CitiPower Centre (Junction Oval).
