I'm properly biased towards Muthusamy because we played representative soccer together and family friends etc but I do agree with the sentiment towards his selection. I just think Piedt being off color today amplified the iffy role he has been given.
Unfortunately, this was seen coming; if they had just picked Muthusamy in front of Piedt, I could get it. But not both.

This all could have been avoided if we hadn't lost Harmer to Kolpak.

Philander/Maharaj/Harmer/Rabada definitely wouldn't need a Muthusamy at 7.

SA got lucky with that rain break there. Those two were in a prime position to pile on the misery by adding another 150 runs in the final session against tired bowlers.

Don't envy SA's position here. Still have Pujara and Kohli relaxing in the sheds too. By the time the Saffers need to come out and bat they'll be mentally and physically ****ed and probably collapse like a house of cards as a result. Batting first is a huge benefit if you can bat the first 2 days like India are looking like doing here.

One thing I underestimate, as a club cricketer, is the impact of net form. Elite players will be netting every day and it obviously plays a major part in the selection process - and so certain players may play on a 'gut' feel.

Thoughts?
net form is bs IMO. I wouldn't be using it to decide anything. Maybe more so for bowlers but for batsmen it's a completely different thing to batting in the middle.

Seems more than likely wel lose some time today due to rain as well

India won't declare before 500 right? Even if it takes 3 days to get there?

If it rains again today, India may not be getting much time to bat in the second innings. So bat big first might be the right approach.

Rohit Gurunath Sharma now averages more than GR Vishwanath and ME Waugh, 2 blokes with illustrious test careers. Momentarily it might be though.

This is looking like a real motorway now. Gonna be tough to take 20 wickets, hopefully it starts to deteriorate by day 3.

So good from Rohit, just a couple of steps down the track and effortlessly back over the bowler's head. Smooth as silk.

Chastening for Maharaj. Piedt and the other guy were always going to go but I doubt the Indian spinners will concede 100 in both South African innings.

Unless it rains or India want Rohit to score 400, Ashwin takes out Elgar today and Jadeja takes care of the right handers.

India have to declare today come what may. With rain looming, Can't have them batting in day 3 and giving SA chance of a draw.
