Hoping for one evil dustbowl, just for variety. India would be better off just prepping flattish pitches, but it would make for a dull series.

A seaming wicket would be nice from a spectator's pov to get a competitive game- even Indian fans must be getting a bit bored of watching them steamroll hapless tourists. But intentionally tossing a bone this big is a bit much to ask for.

Ravi Shastri, the India coach, has all but confirmed that Bhuvneshwar is only an ODI option going forward. Speaking to Hindustan Times on the problem of plenty in the pace department, he said, "There is Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma. How you look after each one of them is very important. Then we have Umesh Yadav, and Navdeep Saini is in the line for Tests. As far as white-ball cricket is concerned, you have Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed in the wings. You got Deepak Chahar who has done so well."
Bhuvi's no longer a test match bowler it seems. What a ****ing waste. He's bowled like a champ every time he's been given the opportunity.

What part of his bowling makes them think he's better in ODIs than tests, let alone not worthy of being considered in tests? The guy averages 26 ffs in tests and 35 in ODIs for ****s sake. Insane.

Surely there has to be another reason why they don't want to pick Bhuvi? Really rate the guy. In fact, I'd have him just behind Bumrah in certain conditions. Plus he can bat!

The number of times he's managed to hang around and provide valuable lower order support is amazing for a guy not considered an all rounder. Sucks how he's been used.

I've always found some of the selections in the Indian team bizzare in the Shastri coaching era. Remember Rohit in SA, dropping Ashwin when he shouldn't have been dropped, playing him when it should have been Jadeja,Stuart Binny getting like 5 Tests? Just examples off the top of my head.

So looking at the single match played at the venues, it would seem that Visakhapatnam and Ranchi, more classic Indian batting friendly pitches and Pune looked a big turner. Is that what we can expect?

Markram tons up 2 matches in a row.... eventually quality will show. Hopefully shows big this coming series.

(And then retires, obviously)

Umesh in their test squad & Thakur although not so great has played for India a bit. Porel is an ex u19 international who seems a long term project. Think the spinners are well down their pecking order though.

So a challenge for most SA batsmen...
