Tbh when Danny Morrison is commentating on Test Cricket he sounds like a completely different person. I think he knowing hams it up for T20 stuff.

He was commentating in a test match recently wasn't he? How was he?

He's been on record saying he tries to do the whole high octane shtick in T20s because it's more 'fun', and I don't blame him for it tbh. He's got tons of fans in India, and if that's good commentary to them, who are we to say he's not a good one? Very subjective thing really.
yeah get him in an interview and he's completely different

even in the comm box, if whoever he is with asks about fast bowling he calms down and speaks normally

Regarding South African commentators I think Neil Manthorp (radio) is absolutely magnificent. Pat Symcox, otoh, is dreadful and makes Channel 9 seem balanced and objective.

Any love for the Supersport team? Pommie Mbangwa, Wessels, Haysman, and Pollock are a great bunch of commentators too, Pommie being one of my favourites.
Yeah, they're generally pretty good. Haysman gets a bit caught up in the excitement of the game but he's not too bad overall and in anycase, is a good contrast from what is otherwise a mild team.

Pollock's a bit dull in his style but has some interesting things to say. Wessells is dour but well thought-out. Pommie has been fine when I've heard him commentate.

Graeme Smith has been OK as long as he doesn't spit the dummy and turn into a SA fanboy which has happened on occasion.

Sangakkara replaces Warne on Sky's comms team

Ponting, Wasim & Harbhajan join for their countries visits.

Then its the usual 6.

Harbhajan's English is pretty poor, not sure why he's got the gig out of nowhere. If the commentary was in hindi he'd be excellent value, very funny dude.

Does this mean no more comm work ? Might not be everyone's cup of tea but older heads who say it like it is with good understanding of the game still have a role to play.

Kepler Wessels takes up post with Cricket Australia as match referee

So SuperSport Comm team

Mbangwa
Haysman
Holding
Pollock
Robbie P
Smith (I presume he will continue even with his Indian comm stints.)
McKenzie (Is now batting coach for Bangladesh so not sure)
Wessels (Match referee for Australian womens cricket)

Might need a few new faces.

I find Sanga to be a big letdown. Expected more from hearing him speak in his playing days. Not bad, but I was hoping a lot for more from him.

Despite his ability to get into a fight in an empty room, Geoff Boycott is a decent commentator. I always learn something listening to him, as well as TMS generally. Dan Norcross is the exception of this rule however. There's something very forced about him, almost in a Danny Morrison way. There's a risk of him trying to be the heir of Henry Blofeld, I can't put my finger on it.

Sky should offer Ricky Ponting a name your own price contract. His presence has highlighted what a bunch of nimrods the rest of them are.
