Since there have been so many cases of balls hitting stumps and not removing bails this summer, case to be made that the Aussie batsmen are at a tiny disadvantage playing without the extra protection of the bails now.

As far as I've seen no one has really been getting excited with his speeds today. It's been a constant case of what's wrong with him, why isn't he bowling faster?
As social sid, he’s very much a rhythm bowler. When he clicks he cranks it, otherwise mid-high 80s, which is fine anyway. Actually makes him more dangerous in a way

wait what? you're allowed to play without bails?
29.4 Dispensing with bails

If the umpires have agreed to dispense with bails in accordance with Law 8.5 (Dispensing with bails), it is for the umpire concerned to decide whether or not the wicket has been put down.

29.4.1 After a decision to play without bails, the wicket has been put down if the umpire concerned is satisfied that the wicket has been struck by the ball, by the striker’s bat, person or items of his/her clothing or equipment as described in 29.1.1.2, 29.1.1.3 or 29.1.1.4, or by a fielder in the manner described in 29.1.1.5.

29.4.2 If the wicket has already been broken or put down, 29.4.1 shall apply to any stump or stumps still in the ground. Any fielder may replace a stump or stumps, in accordance with 29.3, in order to have an opportunity of putting the wicket down.

This is ****. Only 118-2 yet somehow feels like the wheels have come off. Where's the intensity? Where's the pressure?
This is Root's England though. As soon as a couple of batters look like getting stuck in they switch off. I actually think his captaincy is getting worse.

Would England have bowled any worse or been flatter if they'd lost at Headingley? This is another reminder that momentum from test to test isn't really a thing. It's been 10 days, and now it's cold, wet and windy, and two quality batsmen are set.
I can see sheer emotional momentum being a thing if the turn over between games was really short. This long a gap has dissipated that high, allowed Aus to regroup and see that game in the correct light.

Good analysis by Athers before about how TPC has changed the way he’s evading the short ball. Pretty remarkable thing to do in two weeks, one of which you’re KO’ed for. Remarkable player. Never seen anyone like him before.

Have seen the no bails thjng before - maybe perth mid-late 90s when there were cracks and the Doctor came in late arvo. Have played without them lots of times but obviously a much lower level

He’s getting a bit of shape here at least. Weird thing is Archer has barely moved a ball the batsman has had to play at.
