I once did a long-running (in time) thread on CricketWeb of the worst Test cricketers of all time and then wrote up bios of about 9 of the top 15.

The process was somewhat let down by not having that many nominations.

So, I thought I might re-do it.

Send me a list of your top ten worst Test cricketers of all time and I'll compile it into a list.

If someone on CricketWeb wants to post this thread on there, then I'd welcome nominations from CricketWeb people too.

Just e-mail me nominations to heathdavisspeed@gmail.com

Actually, I gotta retract that, we had a thread maybe a year ago where we conclusively proved it's Rubel Hossain

If we're going in terms of torrid single tests, I see your Kerrigan and raise you one Bryce McGain
As incredibly bad as McGain's test was, Kerrigan's was surely worse given it was an Ashes test and he was replacing Swann. McGain was probably just amused he'd finish his long career being able to claim to have been a test cricketer.

I'll grant you the higher-profile test, but Kerrigan didn't actually replace Swann, we went in with 2 spinners (effectively whittled down to 1 after Kerrigan's spell). I still can't look past McGain's 8+ RPO though

8 An over haha?! I didn't realise the run rate. You may actually be right here.

If there’s no criteria in terms of number of matches Tony Pigott is a contender. A moderate English seamer who happened to be in New Zealand when a Test was being played and there was no time to fly anyone else in.

Poor McGain. Gets picked for his only test while he was injured and never gets another shot (He retired soon after tbf). Was pretty good at the domestic level.

Worst always seems harsh, given we could praise someone like Jamie Siddons but admonish someone who actually made it to the top level.

But if the topic got around to ODI cricketers, Andy Mathieson's name could come up. Just happened to be in the right country at the right time, played an ODI, got a wicket with his first ball, nothing else happened then retired two years later at 28 years old.

Mathieson was somewhat of a Mike Whitney type situation, few injuries to the touring squad leave them short a bowler, just pick the nearest eligible player available.

John Watkins a name that springs to mind. A leggie who hadn't even been a NSW regular, was picked against Pakistan pretty much directly from Newcastle club cricket. Bowled about half a dozen overs where he barely hit the cut surface, but he did make a 36 that turned out to be very important for the game. Was taken to the Caribbean where his form didn't improve, was not risked in any of the tests, before fading back in to the obscurity from which he came from

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
As much as I was a fan for a while, Jamie How should be in contention. 19 tests, 4 fifties and an average of 22.
