Doesn't he usually bat in the middle order though
For Surrey, he bats in the middle order of late, or at 3. Although it’s not his position that we’re discussing here more that he deserves a shot in England’s top/middle order more so than Curran.

Hazlewood is just a better version of what they think Siddle is.

We're really going to struggle to score with any fluency here.

This cancer day thing is a great idea but is getting everyone wearing red really a good idea? Imagine if a fielder loses the ball in a background of red and drops an important catch, could be game changing.

Yes it is. That's exactly what we're discussing.

I just don't see it... yes play him 5 or 6 if you want, but his technique is not just gonna come right for a moving ball in Test matches. The Sehwags of the world are rare.... there is a reason that many great opening LO batsmen bat 6/7 in the Test teams.
I fully understand the scepticism, however, we have not been blessed with the traditional style openers going a great job in recent years, at least we know Roy can perform against top class international attacks and that currently seems a better measuring stick than scoring runs as an opener in the County Championship, as many of them have failed.

Roy is going to snick off early on occasions in English conditions, but he will play a destructive tone-setting innings at times, maybe more so abroad, and I think that’s something we need to be patient with.

In ODI's though. By your logic Aaron Finch should be a lock in the Australian side.

Ah my apologies, I mustn’t have initiated this conversation with a comment about Curran being a Test class batsman and you replying with “and Roy is?”, I must somewhere have mentioned particular batting positions. Oh wait.....

I think he was given the opportunity to do so though wasn’t he ? And rightly so, that he didn’t quite crack it in the 10 innings he had at the top is not to say Roy won’t, but Roy should be given at least 10 opportunities also, maybe more due to our lack of options.
