In those teams, definitely Smith and Barnes. Already have 5th-6th bowlers in Hammond and Border.

Attempt at a "cricketing generations" sort of XI. Idea partially influenced by how different the key players of the first half of the 2010's and the second half of the 2010's looked.

For 2015-present:

1. Warner
2. Cook
3. Pujara
4. Williamson
5. Smith
6. Kohli
7. de Kock
8. Ashwin
9. Cummins
10. Rabada
11. Anderson

2007-2014

1. Cook
2. Smith
3. Sangakkara
4. Amla
5. Kallis
6. Chanderpaul
7. de Villiers
8. Philander
9. Johnson
10. Swann
11. Steyn

(if de Villiers is too much of a cheat, pick Prior and drop Chanderpaul, I guess)

2001-2006

1. Hayden
2. Langer
3. Dravid
4. Ponting
5. Lara
6. Kallis
7. Gilchrist
8. Pollock
9. Warne / Akthar
10. Muralitharan
11. McGrath

The one who in the past ten days has been allocated over 974 runs in the current series and 80 Test centuries including at least 20 in The Ashes. Not forgetting his proximity to 10,000 runs at an average of 60 despite being currently in the low 6000’s. He’s definitely good enough to shift shape into Gubby Allen and take 900 wickets.

Who is the greatest pure wicket-keeper of all time?
Very tough question and not something that's too quantifiable. I could think of about 15-20 guys who were absolutely brilliant, but I really can't say for sure as they're all pretty even in terms of reputation and for the most part played well before I was born.

If we restrict it to my lifetime it's either Jack Russell or Ian Healy. If we restrict it to my cricketing lifetime (i.e. players I remember seeing), that's a trickier question. PJ, perhaps?

From the ancient footage I've seen, Wally Grout, Godfrey Evans and Alan Knott all looked clean as a whistle and matched their reputations. Grout especially made it look very easy. Fred to confirm.
