I think this gives an advantage to players from the lower ranked nations to get into the top 100/20/10 easier. Probably the reason why there are many Srilankans there. But fair enough since we cannot take that factor out of calculation.
I like it that the team ratings and the player ratings are in sync since their adjusted points/runs scored/runs conceded are adjusted by the same opposition rating.

One of the biggest factors that steered me away from using current/career averages or ICC ratings was early matches and how to rate performances such as Spofforth's 7-fer at The Oval in 1882. If I used the contemporary ratings/averages of opposition batsmen, then they wouldn't add up to much since all the batsmen had only played a handful of matches, some of them on debut. Also, do I take the career ratings/averages of the batsmen or combine their contemporary averages/ratings with the end-of-career averages/ratings? Or even peak ratings? Do I just factor in the top 7 batsmen or the entire team? What if someone was a nightwatchmen? There were a myriad factors to consider which in the end I am happy to admit was beyond me as a sole researcher/analyst. So I just went with the team ratings which I formulated by myself. As I mentioned above, player's runs scored/runs conceded and team points for wins/draws/losses are all adjusted by the same opposition rating.

Strangely Smith has no entries in the list so far. Fully expect 2nd innings hundred in first Ashes test to make it.

I dont think these are going to rate so high. More you-had-to-be-watching hundreds, than statistical gems.

Both may be. I didn't watch the game so I am just giving more credit to the innings played from a deficit of 90 runs.

122 for 8 in the first innings though and it was moving around considerably of the seam and scored half of the team runs. Second one was great but the first one in another league especially considering some non statistical measures (after everything he has been through) as well but they won't influence this exercise.

The match situation was only 2 for when he came in. Not good, but nothing exceptional. If it accounts for all the wickets falling whilst in it may get a big bonus, but I'm really feeling it will not feature high at all.

Yeah fair. Although this methodology takes into account match situation when batsman walked in AFAIR.

I don’t understand. So you have to be a low order bat for your innings to rank high? It almost certainly does account for the wickets falling while he was in. Otherwise no top 4 bats would feature

I just realised how unbelievably niche a nerd haven CW is. Like The Citadel from Rick and Morty. Praise be to DoG and all those who make this place what it is.

Righto, sobered up now.

The system does take into account point of entry, wickets fallen when at the crease, percentage of team runs, runs with the lower order, etc. So both top order and lower order batsmen can benefit. Top order batsmen especially benefit from wickets fallen and percentage of team runs.

Steven Smith's performances at Birmingham:

144 (first innings): 18.13
142 (third innings): 15.33

The first innings rates quite a bit higher due to Smith making his runs with minimal support whereas in the third innings, even though Australia was facing a deficit, other batsmen scored plenty of runs.
