watching root is quite painful at the moment
He's too good not to make runs this series but the difference between how I feel watching him bat right now compared to watching him in 2015 is vast. In that series, basically as soon as he started batting in each innings you could tell that he was going to score loads and loads of runs.

Mattdye: "Funny how Lyon looks so threatening. England need to take a lead out of Australia's book and play their best spinner, not a decent one who can bat a bit" After the events at Lord's, I genuinely can't tell who you are referring to ...
amazing how there are still people on this planet who don't realise that moeen is by a considerable distance the best spin option for england at home

I've just got that sinking feeling about this match. Should have had a second, both batsmen looking comfortable otherwise, batting getting easier as the ball gets older. Unless England collapse badly they should get a good lead.

Wood out for the rest of the season. Not really a surprise sadly.

I think that hit the pad.

also back in 2015 and all the way through those periods of time where he'd annoy the **** out of you by giving good starts away, he always looked in great touch. always middled everything.

i don't think he's middled a ball all morning. looks legitimately short of touch for the first time in his career.
