So I was correct.

Aim for 310 and you may end up with 325. Aim for 350 and you end up with <300.
Yeah this was why I didn't want Maxwell in so early. Given he's the only world class icing player in the team you have to save him until quite late especially given he's not good at building an innings (at least at ODI level). Whereas a block/bash merchant like Stoinis should be starting early and despite batting #7 Carey is mostly cake too.

285 disappointing from being 0/100-odd but still defendable. First 10 overs key, to state the obvious.

Picking a specialist batsmen only for him to not bat half the time is 100% pointless. Especially given he's a **** fielder.
It’s not pointless in these conditions and of course he’d bat ahead of Cunmins and Starc. Fmd he would be ahead of Stoinis in this line up too. Darsh isn’t the answer - he’s in the sheds pulling cones and is older than water.

285 is a good total on this deck but feels under after that start. Need it to stay overcast and to bowl full. Carey again very handy at the death. Done well this WC.

Played for Victoria for a period though. For whatever reason they tend to be parochial as **** with regards to cricket for anyone with even the slightest connection to Victoria.
Like constantly dredging up Siddle. But Langer also has the WA thing going.

I hadn't quite appreciated how awful Ben Stoke's stats as a bowler are in ODI's. Basically bad enough not to be considered an all-rounder IMO. Has he regressed recently or just always been mediocre at this format (with the ball!)?

Honestly Stoinis really only had a purple patch of one year or so. Was ordinary at state level for ages, made the one score at international level and then had a good year. Reverted to form recently.

M Marsh shouldn't have been dropped, same as Wade.
his purple patch was SA giving him some wickets in a couple of games

his 2018 series against england, for example, featured 76 runs at 15 and 3 wickets at 74. this series was included in the votes that led to him being ODI Player of the Year

Strange time to bring it up given that he was clearly England's best bowler.
