west indies still in with a serious chance here. england are carrying two injured batsman and west indies can get the same, if not more out of this pitch than archer and wood.
Is Morgan definitely not fit to bat then? Obviously looked bad.

The least you can say is that the next two games we have are probably the best opportunity to rotate the squad with SL and Afg coming up (not to say that we would easily beat them otherwise). The timing in the context of this game could end up being pretty terrible though. If there was any time for our long batting lineup to come good...

I mean I could understand 20s being a stat - 20 means you've made a start and played yourself in. 30 is just a silly number that has no relevance to anything.

It originated in t20s where there was expected to be not enough time to get 100s

I understand using it in t20s tbf. It makes sense in a format where 100s and high 50s are sort of the same thing in terms of game impact

Also surprised people were calling for Woakes to open. Wasn't Root literally a test opener for a while

That ball was a gift on a platter made of the finest gold. Short and wide at the perfect cutting height.

My thinking was that if there's an early wicket, you've got Root effectively opening anyway, and if he bats a decent knock, he's bought Morgan and the others some time to get fit and we keep our batting depth.

I'm fine with Root opening and obviously pleased they're batting well right now, but it leaves a big hole at 3-4, especially if Morgan's not yet fit. If we'd lost a wicket in the opening few overs we'd have a real vulnerable middle order.

In fact if Root gets out now I'd still promote Woakes to plug the gap.

Russell looks cooked. Bit of a passenger in this side. He won't be able to do what he did it the IPL against most sides. I'd rest him against NZ for example

It would appear that we don't have a plan B.....

This was a very bad toss to lose meaning we were likely to lose anyway IMHO, but we have played brainless cricket here. I can't help but feel this is a couple of years too early for this team, the youngsters haven't had enough time to really build up some experience and they haven't played together very much. As a result they seem to be making poor decisions during key moments.

I tend to agree, it's getting a bit of a farce now and he isn't batting well enough at the moment. I also think Carlos is a hack and is only in the side for so long because he's mates with the captain.
