I'm the context of the match, the bowler and the ball that was bowled, I'm not sure I've seen a worse dismissal than that of Holder. Utter garbage ball that would have been a leg side wide if it was left alone. Total match changer that.

It wasn't actually that bad a ball tbh. Knuckle ball marginally off line.

Be pretty interesting to see Hales reception if they bring him back, which imo they should. Gun ODI bat

Stokes or Root to open imo. Stokes plays the fast short stuff well and this windies team seems to be inclined to go short early. He isn't particularly valuable in the middle order. Root I think is the obvious choice though.

Buttler is too likely to knick off early against the new ball and too valuable in the middle order. Woakes I don't think is good enough and tends to be a happy hooker. He is decent down the order too when the ball is older.

These injuries are disastrous for england's wc chances. Both look like they will be out for multiple weeks. They had 6 bats (roy, hales, Bairstow, Root, Morgan, Buttler) + 2 allrnders (ali and stokes) who played all the cricket since last wc and all looked good with hales in reserve. All 6 bats averaged over 40,all with sr over 90. It's hard to plan for Hales doing a load of coke, and two muscle injuries to batsmen. James Taylor, Billings and Vince were the next most used bats and Taylor is retired, Billings serious shoulder injury and Vince already in the squad.

I'd bring Hales back. No point cutting our nose off to spite our face, other sides wouldn't even have dropped him tbh.

The umpiring continues to be atrocious in this tournament...

Edit:Apparently not...

Some brainless dismissals here that will make the difference between a 280 potentially match winning score and a below par 210/220.

Excellent from Pooran, so glad to see him getting some time in the middle. I've noted the umpires have been poor again today, just not so one-sided. They have been very lenient on the bouncers which I absolutely don't mind as long as they are consistent when we bowl them.

You haven't got a clue fella.
That ball was complete garbage that should have been left alone or dispatched for 4. **** variations are still ****. Holder just wasn't watching the ball properly. And it's cost his team.

So I go back to my original point, Holder getting out like that was embarrassingly bad. The ball was ****, the context of the match made it worse and getting out to Root is a crime in at least eighteen countries.

My understanding is that it was as much at the request of players and captain... so bringing him back would not be great for the change room?

Nah **** Hales the dickhead. He doesn't get to walk back in. And yes it is cutting our nose off to spite our face because our chances with him are much better than without, but you need to stick with your principles. If the team management thought at the time that the Hales issue warranted dropping then they have to stick with it. Then again they changed the rules with Archer so it could happen, although this would be a much more egrious and self serving movement by England imo if they bring back Hales.
