That stuff may raise the bar in terms of what he needs to do to catch the selectors' eye, but I doubt whether it completely removes him from consideration. His biggest problem is Root batting at four followed by various all-rounders plus Buttler from five. If Clarke was serious about playing for England, he'd be batting at 3 for his county.

I know you were but it is highly hypothetical at this stage especially as he only made 4 runs in this match.
Hope to see Pope get a good run in the test side. He averages 50+ in first class so surely he deserves a good chance. As other people have mentioned though, opportunities are slim for middle order bats, with the chance that they are potentially going to get being at 3 (unless Root decides to move once again) and subsequently tougher than their usual spot. Pope has moved from 6 to 4 though so if he has a good season there then that could only be a good thing for his england career going forward.

It's the first weekend of the village season here, so I went to a ground to watch some play and spoke to an acquaintance there. Apparently Haseeb Hameed was dropped down to play village cricket last season and he didn't even score runs there. He must feel fantastic now.

Great to see Banton playing for Somerset today and scoring a ton. I was a little worried he wouldn't play today which would have been a shame given his talent.

This post seems to be some one day matches, not county cricket, which is 4 day first class cricket, so I am not sure what it is doing here ruining this thread.
I was just about to ask here if hales is injured or at the ipl.

You are obviously a fake cricket fan, no proper cricket fan is a fan of one day cricket, proper cricket fans hate one day cricket. Proper cricket fans would not want to contaminate this thread with the abomination that is one day cricket.
