Also the tied England India game.

2015 was great. Sanga and Doola hundreds, Maxwell, AB, Guptill going crazy. Bowling wise we had Starc, Boult, Umesh+Shami, Rubel (for knocking England out), Waahhhab Riaz to Watto, spinners having very little impact, etc.

Don't forget Southee killing England single-handedly (and doing more or less bugger all ever since), Williamson finishing a low scoring first game vs. Australia with an epic six. Elliott doing the same against the Saffas in the semis.

And while the match ended up disappointing, the roar of the Aussie crowd in the final when Starc bowled Baz. Pretty great moment in sport

2011 had the KoB hundred, bangladesh embarassing England, SA's funniest choke.and Pak's funniest WC loss to India. Also India won. What more could anyone want.

Most of the knockout matches were decent too, and it had an actually competitive and engrossing final, unlike most tournaments
I don't know, it just felt short of big moments and drama compared to most World Cup's. It's not a bad WC but it's a little forgettable other than the KoB ton and NZ beating SA.

EDIT: TBF though England's run seems amazingly crazy there.

Yeah the KW bop was the best game of the tournament imo, followed shortly by the semis that SA were robbed of.

Anyone thinking 2011 was worse than 2007 has to be doing some serious revisionism there

2007 was a shambles from an organisational point of view, no doubt about that, but by and large the on field action was more memorable than 2011. The Ireland V England game and the final are the only games I actually really remember to be honest.

I don't think anyone who wasn't Australian has done that tbf

Although I will say in 2007 the group stage was fun. Just everything after that was terrible.

Best to worst:

1999 -> 1996 -> 2003 -> 2015 -> 2007 -> 2011.

I can't remember anything about the 2011 World Cup except for tuning in to part of the final between India and Sri Lanka. I don't even recall who won the game.

Think 2011 suffers a bit from the fact a lot of the best games were early in the tournament. Its my personal favourite world cup over 15, though I may remember it with slightly rose tinted glasses just because every England group game was spectacular in its own way.

I can only go on the tournaments since I've been watching cricket:

1999 > 2003 > 2015 > 1987 > 2007 >1975 > 1996 > 1992 > 1979 > 1983 > 2011 is the definitive order of WCs in that time.

So pretty much the same as Starfighter's and my list with a couple of minor adjustments.

Walt, do you actually remember 75'?

I can't recall 07' at all. I remember many moments from. 11' and 15' though.

The only drawback is that we'd need to find colours for Afghanistan and Bangladesh, and another blue won't do.

I can think of Much Darker Green, Orange, Black, White, Pink, Purple and Brown.

It's not an insurmountable obstacle.

Y no Afghanistan flag
I really liked 1999, I'm sure most Aussies rate that one pretty highly.

1996 was really good overall too. A downside were the forfeited matches in Sri Lanka but I think the finals series is a little underrated as there was some amazing individual performances. Chris Harris quarter final knock was superb and only Mark Waugh's brilliance has made the knock perhaps a little less memorable. Lara hit a century, Warne's spell to see West Indies crumble was huge and Aravinda was amazing in both the semi and final.

Australia/West Indies semi is probably a Top 10 ODI match of all-time. Just overshadowed by the one the World Cup afterwards (and also because Sri Lanka won the final).

Yeah the 96 world cup was awesome. I'm fact 90s ODI cricket was simply superior.

The best ODI bowling attacks:
Wasim/Waqar
Warne/ McGrath
Ambrose/ Walsh
Donald/ Pollock/ Klusener
Murali/Vaas

Three great world cups.

These teams were genuinely in contention for the best side of the era:

Aus
SA
WI
Pak
Sri Lanka

And these teams were still competitive:

India
England
Zimbabwe

We had three amazing world cups.

We had the birth of the specialist ODI sides and a lot of the modern aspects of ODIs were developed during this era.

We had the greatest ODI match of all time.

The tri series in Australia provided some extremely memorable matches and series'. Bevan's heroics, Aus A almost toppling the Aus side, lots of Aus vs SA.

Such a great time for cricket. In fact the 90s was the best time to be a cricket fan, particularly if you were Australian. The epic battles vs the West Indies in tests were all memorable and exciting, with some of the best test cricket ever played.

Brilliant stuff.

The '99 choke was bigger. When Klusener crunched the first two balls of the last over effortlessly to the boundary a bookie would have offered you 1000-1 odds of them not winning

The 96 one was a shocking collapse of course but the final over of the 99 semi is just legendary for its ridiculousness
