IMO the only reason for ignoring Wade is that he's upset someone. I think he's becoming a bit over-rated here but the last 15 months he's done everything he can to earn a recall.

Overrated is a relative term. Labuschagne got picked ahead of him so it's well deserved.

As good as his form is, I don't honestly believe Wade could cut it as a specialist Test batsman. A lot of people are forgetting that he averaged about 21 with the stick in his last stint in the Test team, the main reason why he was dropped in the first place. Absolutely he should be in the World Cup squad, but tests are a different matter entirely

For clarity, with Smith and Warner back I don't see Wade in the Test side, but certainly should be in the Ashes squad in front of a spud like Labushagne. If for no better reason than to show that Shield runs get rewarded.

But I would have him in the white ball 11.

The next step for potential Ashes batsmen is the A tour of England. The Ashes squad will be selected very late to allow the two FC matches against English opponents to be considered. Wade should be part of this A squad and given a chance to prove he can score runs in England in the FC matches.
However the A squad will also be covering the Australian WC squad in case of injury so there will probably be players like Turner or Maxwell in the A squad, maybe even D'Arcy Short. Tim Paine will be captain of the A team, and it has been suggested Head, Harris and Patterson will be in the A squad. Leaves not much room for Wade or Labuschagne or Pucovski or any other young batsman who could be considered.

Yeah this genuinely could be the way they go, mostly because half of the batting line-up are #6s playing too high and opening up 7 lets you pick 'em all + Smith.

I'm assuming the general feeling is that he has improved significantly, and that his domestic numbers reflect that, rendering his previous international stats not particularly relevant. Like predicting Steve Smith's results post-2014 based on his 2011 run in the Test team.

Don't need that many bowlers and Maxwell or Turner would have more benefit than a 5th specialist bowler. Although any team that leaves Carey out starts ahead in my book.

On a completely unrelated note, Lloyd Pope took 6-67 to bowl Kensington to semi final victory against Adelaide Uni on the weekend. Had a disjointed season, struggled a bit on occasion, but it's good to see a reminder of what Pope is capable of
