What if he would have said it in some other language?
Glad the Barmy Army sang YMCA at him when he walked out to bat.
Didn’t save the Pakistani captain the other week. What if he would have said it in some other language?
Intersting. Are there other test nations where homosexuality is illegal?Going to throw the cat amongst the pigeons a bit here but stay with me.
So first of all, yes well done Root. Looks and sounds genuine, in the same scenario I’d probably say something like ‘so what’s wrong with that?’
Anyhow. Read a wisden article on it and in the process learned that male homosexuality was still illegal in St Lucia.
As such any charges here sir wholly uneasily with me. Not because ICC shouldn’t stamp out homophobic sledging - it goes without saying. But if your regulations disallow such behaviour, then perhaps you shouldn’t allow Test Cricket to be played in a country where homosexuality is illegal.
I mean in reality I have no actual issue with the charge but you see my point, right?

My first reaction to this was a feeling of respect for Joe, it was real classy to leave it on the field and not whinge to the umpires about it.
Then I started wondering how much he was playing for the viewers/media knowing that the stump mics would surely pick it up. Either way clever work.
Victim blaming.I don't get why whether Root was trying to be seen as a saint matters here. It's a side-show at the most.
Or is he playing the role of former imperial slave master by imposing western imperialistic world view on former colony??Victim blaming.
Bloke deals with a dire slur in the most understated and dignified way possible. Result = Hurrr durrrr he's trying to make it all about him!
