Just wondering, is it harder to face seam movement from a bowler that's not swinging it, as opposed to one who will move it both in the air and off the seam, but in the same direction? For the latter you start adjusting earlier while it's in the air while it's just harder to adjust for the former.

Still can't believe Rayudu gets a go, this man simply isn't good enough, and giving him games during the WC year is just ridiculous. India needs to play Pant as a standalone batsmen and let him develop. Him and Pandya will be important when he gets back.
I am not too sure about Pant at this stage. His list a stats suggest that he has been more like Sehwag. Good in tests and t20s but not in odis.

But yes, only one of Rayudu/Dhoni need to play at 4 for the team.

People need to accept Munro is hit and miss, just like McCullum was... we have enough Test batsmen below him. That said, he missed that by about a foot which is concerning in its own right.
Nowhere near as effectively it has to be said. McCullum averaged about 31 at a surreal strike rate of 148 during his last couple years in the team. Munro averages 26 at a strike rate of 108, and that's with a lot of minnow bashing against the likes of Zim, Bangladesh and touring Sri Lanka thrown in. It started to look like he was turning the corner last summer, but on current form I just don't reckon those numbers are good enough.

McCullum as opener came off Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar more often than Munro is in ODIs (in T20 I'd agree).
Don't know about far with that many Aaaaas). McCullum averaged 30 IIRC, Munro 26 with a superior SR to McCullum. I'd prefer Munro to be averaging at least 30 (rather than 26) with his impressive SR of over 100, but not sure the gap is what you imply.

His average is down into the 25s now ... we can’t take that into a World Cup.

Oh please, Pant is the future, he will be the next WK bat after Dhoni retires from ODI's for sure, there simply is no reason to not invest in him even if he isn't keeping. These ODI series would have been the perfect time to give him a go and let him develop into a finisher with Dhoni coming in at 4, him along with Pandya and Jadeja would make for a pretty solid lower middle order with serious firepower at the end of an innings.

Was McCullum's record impressive against the top sides?

Well. Munro will probably have 4 more chances in this series. He needs to make each one count now. Do or die (and this time probably forever)

I'm a Munro fan, but am in agreement that unless he gets at least a couple of good scores in this series, it should be curtains.

Who replaces him is the big question. Do we do a 180 with Latham? -I'd be reluctant). Do we manufacture Nicholls into an opener? Or do we look to someone like a Phillips?

Will Young did brilliantly for NZ A in list a games in UAE and NZ, got picked in the test squad then forgotten for the ODIs.

His last 3 T20 games have been 43 off 28, 33 off 32 (only chasing 113), and 89 off 50

Not Terrible
Why are people discounting McCullum vs. SL? SL were legit in those years. Same goes with Bangers and Munro.

I'm prepared to give Munro more rope than most.

McCullum was basically in the team as a pure meme slogger in the latter part of his career and Munro clearly is the best equipped person we have to carry out that role. Has had tremendous success domestically in all formats and playing T20s both internationally and at franchise level, basically being a memey slogger. I'm not sure there is anything in particular about ODI cricket that is causing him to struggle, it still feels more like an outlier given the nature of his batting?

Not sure why folks are only judging McCullum's record on his last 2 years either tbh. He opened in ODIs from around 2008 didn't he?
