Guessing it's just for the conditions, Southee and Boult probably isn't the optimal combination of 2 seamers on pitches like these.

Taylor's scored some good runs in Asia against spin in the past, particularly in Sri Lanka and the UAE, however what sticks in my more recent memory is how godawfully he batted last time we toured India. He couldn't get started, couldn't find a way against Jadeja and Ashwin at all and there was even that embarrassing runout where he didn't slide his bat. Was a blot on what has otherwise been a great last few years.
Anyway, need him to channel that great hundred he scored in UAE last time we were there, rather than the timid uncertainty from his more recent subcontinent tour. Today's innings looked more like the latter.

Nicholls had done well with hitting the boundary balls up to that point, but in the end he's given away a great chance to make a big score.
Commentators not giving Abbas credit but I reckon it's a great tempter first ball after drinks, reverse swinging away, requires a reach and takes the edge.

From memory he wasn't quite 100% physically in that series. Possibly missed one with illness?
Either way, these things happen. Kohli got owned by Anderson on his first tour. Often takes a tour or two for away series

haha i always thought it was the lazy adjective for ****ing slow
watling's made a career out of refusing to get out and not caring how slow he scores so the turgid uae is perfect for his patience.
