Quality trolling from Taylor haha, never knew he had this side to him.

I share his concerns about Hafeez's action, but yeah, I agree. Pretty out of character - don't know why he did it.
I support taylor completely. When a guy gets banned and comes back doing the same thing repeatedly all you can do is joke about it.

Am I the only one who thinks the Taylor thing was nil, in either direction?

i thought the chucking thing was funny.

i think for the world cup we're just going to have to accept the 5th bowler will be a bit leaky unless someone who can bowl proper stuff like clarkson suddenly ignites the stage. the power hitting is workable. Colin is a lock so we just need one more. our death bowling isn't going to get any better either unless ferguson continues his steady overall improvement or southee sorts himself out after 3 years of crap.

with this in mind we should just revert to our 2015 tactic of making the death overs irrelevant by bowling everyone out. boult-henry-ferguson-santner-colin lets go.
wow, didn't realise latham had graduated from an annoying slow 40 accumulator

97 for Jeet Raval and 64 for Rachin Ravindra.

Considering none of our 3 main spinners (Astle, Sodhi, Ajaz) fill me with much confidence, I wonder if RR is being considered a chance for a test debut at 6 on this tour. RR has been bowling a lot of overs, so must be doing something right.

We could then go:
Top 5
6. Rachin (2nd spinner)
7. Watling
8. CDG
9. Spinner?
10. Wagner
11. Boult

(No place for Southee)

Or

Top 5
RR (2nd spinner)
Watling
Astle
Southee
Wagner
Boult

Did you know:

- New Zealand's ongoing win streak against Pakistan is the second longest. The longest is South Africa's which stretched over 14 matches from 1995 to 2000.

- Pakistan has won only one match - out of six - while chasing against New Zealand in the UAE since they have adopted the country as their home venue. Their record while chasing in the UAE, since early 2009, is abysmal as they have lost 20 out of 36 matches while batting second.

- ICC Champions Trophy 2017 bowler of the tournament, Hasan Ali averages 48.8 in his last five matches.

This was an option, but I think Ravindra needed to take a few ODI wickets to be in the front of the selectors minds.

In the meantime, Astle out, Somerville in:

That it's one effed up selection. Seriously? Sommerville wasn't good enough to play for a state team as a spinner in Australia we're not talking about in India or Sri Lanka and he's 34. Plays handful of games scores 50 against a domestic team that doesn't even have full strength team and is offered a test cap. Can you imagine a kiwi moving at 34 to Aussie to get a test cap? Our guys have no brains. Besides they say he's tall lol when did height become a factor for selection? And this is Dubai, if you're 10 feet you can't get massive bounce.

Why couldn't they get Mark Craig in? He's 31 and has done decent enough in test cricket. Sure he lost his spot in the past but for him to lose out against Sommerville is shocking. This can only only happen in New Zealand.

Craig was a bit of a no brainer given his success there in the past imo ... not saying Larsen has no brain, but ... ok, he doesn’t have one.

Craig is a total and complete spud who fell into success in the UAE because Pakistan gifted all their wickets to him.

Mark Craig isn’t exactly 100 percent healthy himself, and he’s rubbish when he is so no thanks. Will Somerville obviously came over here for a reason, and he’s behind four other spinners at this stage. I wouldn’t get too worked up over it.

I guarantee he’ll get a test cap over here too btw, no way Sodhi lasts the whole series. Williamson still isn’t a fan in test cricket.

Edit: Given he scored runs in the A series I’m surprised they didn’t call Ravindra up, could’ve played him at seven and allowed us to play three seamers. As it is it looks like it will have to be Boult, Wagner, de Grandhomme plus two spinners which doesn’t look ideal to me at all. That’s Larsen and co though, no forward thinking at all.

Was good enough, 48 wickets @ 25 in Sheffield Shield (which is a stronger competition than Plunket Shield). But was behind Lyon and O'Keefe in the NSW pecking order, and may had got a quiet word from the selectors about blocking opportunities for a young spinner.

I had hoped he would get a run on the A tour, or even a late call up this week when Ajaz Patel got pulled into the ODI squad. He's the only available off-spinner that could maintain a test match line and length.

I've been surprised and pleased by how well Ravindra has gone in the A series, but these were clearly very flat surfaces. Neil Wagner breezed his way to a half century last night, so I don't think we should take Ravindra's runs as a sign that he'll go well in the tests.

How good is Latham at playing spin in the middle overs, even on tracks which favour them?

So damn impressive since his move to 5. In fact the Latham/Taylor partnership seems to have surpassed the KW/Taylor partnership in the last 12 months.
Yeah, but that's just because Latham and Taylor aren't constantly running each other out.

Ravindra will be playing in Tests by next year IMO. Outside chance at getting a debut this summer.
