Proteas ODI squad: Faf du Plessis (Titans, capt), Farhaan Behardien (Titans), Quinton de Kock (Titans), Reeza Hendricks (Highveld Lions), Imran Tahir (Dolphins), Heinrich Klaasen (Titans), Aiden Markram (Titans), David Miller (Dolphins), Chris Morris (Titans), Lungisani Ngidi (Titans), Andile Phehlukwayo (Dolphins), Dwaine Pretorius Highveld Lions), Kagiso Rabada (Highveld Lions), Tabraiz Shamsi (Titans), Dale Steyn (Titans).
Not nonsense. Quality allrounders are always required in the LO game; the 10 over limit per bowler in ODI's totally changes the complexion of a team. One of the reasons SA did so well with our LO's was our ODI team were always packed with allrounders. Since our quality allrounders retired we have struggled.Decent-ish squad I think, but let's see how they do against the Aussies first.
I hope Morris fires, our WC hopes lie with a quality all-rounder.
Just a thought, our best WC was probably 1999, and there we had two all-rounders playing out of their skin, Kallis and Klusener. Granted, a Klusener-type all-rounder (bowling all-rounder who hits a long ball) is more common than a Kallis type, but I wonder how important it is to have a proper all-rounder in your side to win a WC? Or am I talking nonsense now?
Tom Moody from the 1999 World Cup also comes to mind here. Not nonsense. As for the current SA team (not counting Duminy as an allrounder) we can only afford one allrounder really; think we need to try bowl teams out with the strength of our bowling.
I'd agree with that. While it obviously creates a bit of a tail, you'd have to think that our best team would be six batsmen, one allrounder and then Steyn, Rabada, Tahir, and Ngidi - that bowling line-up is going to have teams on the ropes more often than not.As for the current SA team (not counting Duminy as an allrounder) we can only afford one allrounder really; think we need to try bowl teams out with the strength of our bowling.
Click bait? Or else CSA/Gibson trying to convince him to come back for the WC?
Desperate times call for desperate measures. I definitely see Gibson making one last plea and they came to the Jan agreement.Click bait? Or else CSA/Gibson trying to convince him to come back for the WC?
The SA team looks a different beast with ABdV sitting at 4....Desperate times call for desperate measures. I definitely see Gibson making one last plea and they came to the Jan agreement.
MSL, PSL & IPL the warm-up ?
Quite a crucial period for them to miss out on. Basically just got Sri Lanka ODIs then.Duminy and Mulder to miss Pakistan series

Yeah, pretty much... he is a potential proper top order batsmen that could be a good change bowler in Tests. Future use in LO`s will depend very much on his batting. For the role he was being groomed far -- batting 6/7 and bowling lots of overs in the middle -- Mulder is really an absolutely terrible ODI player at the moment. This is no slight on his talents or future prospects, but neither late order hitting nor tight, variable middle overs bowling are his thing. Maybe he can play the next World Cup batting four and bowling first change, but he's as bad at the role they've trialled him in as a discount young Kallis would be.
