South Africa team selection

I doubt Steyn will able to target a time for retirement. He's been put down by injuries for too long. He is injury prone but hungry as hell. He will play until they put him down again, be it one series or ten.

Im expecting the antithesis of a fairy tale ending. But he will go down having given it everything he has, and in a way that will be a fairy tale ending.

SeamUp's given me a screen capturing-related assignment to chip away at. You'll see me often dropping in here and spamming this thread with Rickelton and Breetze for his benefit.

So what we think of that stroke-play ?

Something aesthetically pleasing about the lean back cut or back-foot drive (a couple in there). Pretty sure Ponting/Gibbs/Cullinan used to do it quite pronounced. Kallis was more stable on contact and textbook ? My memory seems to be playing up.

To be fair, everybody got carted in that match and Shamsi was the second-most economical bowler, although the other bowlers did pick up wickets. But yeah, he hasn't performed in ODIs the way we would have liked, and you've got to start wondering whether Maharaj might be a better option as Tahir's successor.

Maharaj is always an option, especially as an allround package. Any other young spinners making a splash in LO games? I don't think we are in too bad of a position in Tests if Piedt, who could have been our number one spinner at any other time since readmission, isn't getting a look in. I'd like Muthusamy to develop. If he can start scoring at a SR of 90 and bowl 8 or so economical overs then that's an interesting prospect for the LO teams. Subrayen is a good T20 spinner as well. His action is filthy though so it will count against him.

Yeah, but jeepers that Parnell should be the poster child of wasted potential, oh well
I never quite "got" Parnell. I've seen him bowl some amazing spells, and then produce some of the most hittable deliveries in International cricket. His batting really flattered to device. He could have been so much more than he was for SA.

It's very seldom you can lay a loss at the feet of one player. Parnell used to do it regularly. Im a bit relieved he's not in national contention any more. As awesome as he could be, he was dire a lot more often, and he got way too long a run.

In fairness to him re: that one at 0:40, the team was chasing 377.
#Orgasmic

Here we sending young cricketers on an education before they become franchise regulars and Sri Lanka were playing Karunaratne, Chandimal and their A team bowling attack. :D

Thanks Kippax.
