International Captain
No.40

Mohammad Asif (Pakistan) 749

Quality Points: 715
Career Points: 34

Career: 2005-2010
Wickets: 106
Gold Performances: 2
6/44 vs. Sri Lanka at Kandy 2006 (15.62)
5/27 vs. Sri Lanka at Kandy 2006 (16.99)
Silver Performances: 2
Bronze Performances: 4

Overall Average/Strike-Rate/Points Per Innings: 22.02 (24.37) 50.28 (48.78) 5.17
50 Innings Peak Average/Strike-Rate/Points Per Innings (2005-2010): 22.02 50.28 5.17
Non-Home Average/Strike-Rate/Points Per Innings: 20.51 47.16 5.56
Quality Opposition Average/Strike-Rate/Points Per Innings: 22.55 51.53 4.97

Forever tainted by the spot-fixing scandal which ended his career, Mohammad Asif nevertheless has outstanding numbers across the board. A huge adjustment to his bowling average certainly helps him here. 20 of his 23 matches were against quality opposition (i.e. all opponents apart from New Zealand in 2009).

Asif was such a loss. He could toy with the batsmen like no other. I was wishing that he could return instead of Amir. sigh

True, but someone like Bishop didn't have many more wickets than Harris and ended up 50th or thereabouts.

Maybe he won't be in the list, but if not I'd be a bit disappointed, because I think he was better than many of the bowlers in the 50-100 range.
I dare asay Harris will be better than more than in a few in the 1-50 range as well.

Bob Willis (England) 749

Quality Points: 657
Career Points: 93

Career: 1971-1984
Wickets: 325
Gold Performances: 3
7/78 vs. Australia at Lord's 1977 (15.20)
8/43 vs. Australia at Leeds 1981 (21.79)
6/101 vs. India at Lord's 1982 (15.28)
Silver Performances: 6
Bronze Performances: 11

Overall Average/Strike-Rate/Points Per Innings: 24.82 (25.20) 51.70 (53.41) 3.91
50 Innings Peak Average/Strike-Rate/Points Per Innings (1976-1978): 20.11 45.97 4.91
Non-Home Average/Strike-Rate/Points Per Innings: 26.89 58.94 3.01
Quality Opposition Average/Strike-Rate/Points Per Innings: 25.81 49.48 4.09

A workhorse of a bowler, Bob Willis kept pounding in off an exceedingly long run-up for 13 years for England, garnering almost 100 career points. His average and strike-rates are just below ATG level and he loses points for not being as effective away from home (149 wickets in 49 matches). Nevertheless, he deserves his place in the top half of this list. And who can forget Headingley 1981?

1 SCJ Broad 8 15 Australia Nottingham 2015 22.75
2 JC Laker 10 53 Australia Manchester 1956 21.92
3 GD McGrath 8 24 Pakistan Perth 2004 21.85
4 RGD Willis 8 43 Australia Leeds 1981 21.79
5 JC Laker 9 37 Australia Manchester 1956 21.36
6 A Kumble 10 74 Pakistan Delhi 1999 20.88
7 RJ Hadlee 9 52 Australia Brisbane 1985 20.77
8 DW Steyn 6 8 Pakistan Johannesburg 2013 20.73
9 GA Lohmann 8 7 South Africa Port Elizabeth 1896 20.41
10 JM Patel 9 69 Australia Kanpur 1959 20.15

No matter what you do you can't stop Pakistanis from producing great fast bowlers.
I actually think this is a bit of a myth. If you look there are three that people would consider genuine greats (Imran, Waqar, Wasim), a couple of people who you could consider potential greats but many wouldn't (Asif, Shoaib) and one medium-fast bowler who stands a bit apart from the others (Fazal). While three-six is more than India of course it's not like they've had a West Indies style production line of great, genuinely quick bowlers. And as we discovered doing the ATG XIs recently they have very few people in the good/very good (26-29) sort of range. We shall see how Abbas' career progresses before making a definite judgement.

As everyone knows, this is because there are no vegetarians in Pakistan, whereas the entire population of India is banned from eating steak.

I am speaking as a jealous neighbor of course. Look at our crop of fast bowlers.
