*Official* India Tour of England 2018

Groundking

International Debutant
5 of Root's 13 hundreds prior to this have been 180+

So it seems he's quite capable of going really big once he cracks that 3 figures. Wonder why he's dismissed so often between 50-100
I think he gets too comfortable and relaxed at the crease once he starts getting into the 60's or so, but the innings where he gets a ton are the innings where he doesn't relax, and he keeps his focus all the way through.

EDIT: Just to expand on this there is evidence to support the fact that out of the big 4 he probably finds it the easiest to bat as shown by the fact that his 50+ to innings ratio is the best out of the fab 4, and it could be that when he gets to 50 he's having one of those games where it's almost too easy, which is why he looses concentration.

No. First innings leads are everything. This is what people always get wrong about tests in the SC as well. The pitch doesn't usually change appreciably over the first couple of days. England didn't even put up any really big totals when they batted first so India don't even have the scoreboard pressure excuse.

The only test I'd say where the toss played a big role was lords where England had a lot of luck with the conditions going their way st the right times. The rest of the series, both teams usually had similar enough conditions to bat and bowl in.
Scoreboard pressure isn't an excuse. It's a very real thing. It decides Tests more so than anything between 2 fairly equivalent teams. There's a reason why 4th innings chases are such a rarity, no matter how low the target is. The freedom of batting without looking at a score is a huge luxury to have.

A lot of that could be down to Cook having a weight pulled off his shoulders and no longer needing to prove anything. Mental pressures means a lot.
Its not like his place has ever been under threat or any thing. Even averaging 30 or something he is still a damn sight better than any of the other options they have been trying out the past few years.

Haha that Root drop in the nineties us at least the third time that I've seen Pant dive over and ruin a slip catch and all those times the slipper has been Pujara. Pujara was livid the last time and this time he was full on fml mode.
