The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Most athletic is only slightly related anyway. Being good at 2 sports isn't greater than being the absolute god of one and being competitive at others.

You still have no response to the fact that no one has dominated any sport Bradmanesquely.
It's funny how he banged on about the playing two sports thing. It sorta makes Jackson an American sports version of John Surtees*, but without having anything close to the latter's achievements in either of his respective sports. Though I'm guessing that MM won't consider said sports athletic enough.

*If you're under the age of 70 Wikipedia is probably helpful here.

Trade off. I tell you what you want to know about me - You tell me what I want to know about you.
I am just trying to ascertain whether you have played cricket, are a casual cricket watcher, a cricket fan or a cricket tragic. What are you trying to do exactly?

I feel like Jahangir Khan in squash has a reasonable case compared to Bradman for dominance of a sport. 555 consecutive wins is utterly ridiculous. By way of comparison, the longest winning streak in professional tennis is 74 or 182 in amateur, and I don't know of anyone in any major sport who comes anywhere near.

Squash isn't the biggest professional sport, but cricket wasn't in Bradmans time either.
Hardly a fair comparison. Pretty sure cricket in Bradman's time was far bigger than Squash has been ever. Afaik cricket was making front page news regularly, played on the radio often and was one of the biggest sports in Australia and England.

Closest thing to a relevant comparison in this thread so far though

Don't bother asking him about anything. He claims he's got qualifications and claims he knows law better than Burgey who is actually has a verifiable career yet won't tell if he has a degree or what in.

You are a kiwi so let me ask you this.. which have been the most significant new Zealand test batting innings played in the last twenty years? Since you appreciate batting so much.

Not sure about some of those at all. I think Trueman gets a bit of an unfair rap, Peter Heine and Mohammad Asif might be more arseholish at least.

Grace was a well reputed prick. Gavaskar gets in on account of being a selfish bastard. Bradman was a cheat and a general prick which is true for all Australians. Botham is self explanatory too.
Was struggling for a keeper so put in Rashid who was high quality but claimed dropped catches. Trueman maybe an unfair call.

The granddaddy of cricket ****s.
Gavaskar gets in on account of being a selfish bastard.
Maybe so, but Boycott surely wins here. His own teammates ran him out.
Bradman was a cheat and a general prick
A **** yes, not sure about cheat though, at least by the laws (yes he didn't walk in 1946 etc etc), but he did have some behind the scenes influence too, and the ****iness continued through his long admin career too.
which is true for all Australians.
**** off

Initially had Boycs over Gavaskar but went with the latter for the sake of diversity.

The cheat and general prick part is true for all Aussies on the list is what I meant, lol.

Yeah tennis is tough, just lacks the physicality and strength, but needs power and mental toughness, and endurance at times. I agree. Speed helps too.
It's not a contact sport so you don't need to have the upper body strength to shove people aside. But it requires incredible balance, agility and footwork (watch Federer on grass). And you have to be ready to slog it out for 5-6 hours at a stretch.

Yeah - I agree. Tough sport for sure.
