So so good from Kroos. Didn’t really want Germany going out, their games have been two of the best so far.

Very German to recover from 1-0 down and then 1 man down and on their way out of the comp, to snatch the win.

Sweden missed some chances and will now most likely go out, but there'll still be plenty of similarly tall/strong/defensive style teams in the last 16 so it's more interesting if the attacking and somewhat haphazard Germans go through.

I've only seen the winning goal, but why on earth did the Swedish defender stop running towards Kroos after the short free kick had been taken? He took a few steps and then looked as if he just didn't fancy it. If he'd kept going, Kroos would not have had the space to get the shot away. As for Germany, good luck to them. That's one reason why their track record is what it it.

Dunno about that. There was a fair bit of scapegoating of Ozil after the Mexico game, not unrelated to the huge fuss about Ozil and the other squad member with Turkish family background agreeing to meet and be photographed with the Turkish PM. All very unedifying, but these are the times we live in.

The success rate on long-range shots is extremely low, and almost all players try too many, especially during a World Cup.

That said, I don't think Kroos has been shooting from ridiculous positions (except his goal, ironically) and he's very, very good at them.
