Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

I've thought that we certainly could do with a modern-day Mailey, or a cartoonist of that sort*. I think a good one would have had plenty of material to work with recently

*I've seen such cricket cartoons appear in the Age during the 58/59 Ashes, and I wonder when such things stopped being made?

Wisden says of Wyatt on that tour (1932/33 Australia):
Prone to get out leg-before wicket in the early part of the tour, Wyatt took a little time to run into form, but he made many useful scores and was a most valuable member of the combination.
A breakdown of Wyatt's innings on that tour, with l.b.w.s out of innings batted:

4/5 before the 1st test
1/2 in the 1st test
1/2 between 1st and 2nd test
2/2 in the 2nd test
Not l.b.w. in the 3rd test (2 inns)
1/3 between 3rd and 4th tests
Not l.b.w. in 4th test (1 inns)
Not l.b.w. vs N. N.S.W. (1 inns)
Not l.b.w in 5th test (2 inns)
Not l.b.w. in 4 remaining innings

This comes to a total 9 l.b.w.s out of 24 innings, or 37.5%. But, before the end of the 2nd test, this was 8 out of 11 innings played or 72.7%, a pretty impressive proportion

For those whose musical tastes may not include classical music

"GRETA Bradman hasn’t ridden the coattails of her iconic grandfather.

In fact she has shied away from referencing Sir Donald Bradman since launching her career.

Now, nearly a decade in, the Adelaide-born singer dubbed “Australia’s favourite soprano” is embracing her namesake, including a song written by the late cricketing legend on her new album, Home.

“This is significant to me because others will know him differently, but to me, just to have the music of someone who was such a special grandpa, means a lot,” Bradman said.

“Early in my music career I probably would have been more cautious about recording Every Day Is A Rainbow Day For Me but now I feel I have proven myself enough that it is OK to include this and have it there and everyone will understand that it is there because he is my grandpa, not because I’m trying to do anything with it.

“I feel that it is OK to celebrate Grandpa and his music without it just completely taking over the overall message of the album and the amazing work of the orchestra and choir, and (conductor) Luke Dollman.”

The late Bradman, a talented pianist, wrote the song in 1928 for soprano and piano. (He was then 20 years old).

“He wrote it about my grandma – she was the rainbow in his sky,” Bradman said.

“As long as she was around everything was OK – I think that is a beautiful thing for anyone to have and I don’t think it’s a given in life and he was lucky enough to have that.”

Graeme Smith: Shelve T20Is, focus on marketing Tests - ESPNcricinfo

I would love for T20 to become Franchise/Provincial only..... never gonna happen though.
Graeme Smith one of the few to voice this kind of opinion. It's kind of frustrating to see so few key personalities support the format that has been the life line of this sport since forever.

I think he recognises that a test series is like a story that needs be completely developed to be told well.

Some national cricket directors are crying out for context when they ham in two random test matches between some other random ODIs. A good test series needs rivalries, personal battles and those sessions that captivate and change the series. Those are the memories that become etched into cricketing folklore. Rather hard to accomplished when the 'tour' is over in 16 days

My instant reaction to that headline was "What is Graeme smoking?"

But then I had an extra second to think. Does anyone give a good god damn about t20is apart from the most rabid fans? The summit of the t20 game is the franchise systems like the IPL and BBL really.
It wouldn't surprise me if 90% of even hardcore cricket fans couldn't even tell you who won the last world T20. Or the last 2.

You're telling be you've forgotten Ben Chokes already? The last world t20 was one of the best LoI tournaments in years.

I do agree with Smith overall... meaningless t20I bilaterals should piss off. Just play the world t20 once in 2 years.

I'm talking more home games. I agree with that sentiment for t20is as a whole though.

Every summer that goes by I'll know when an ODI or test is on and exactly what time, then t20is rock up and ill turn on the telly and it's halfway through some slogfest I forgot was even on.

Thankfully I don't have to worry about that any more since I cbf getting fox.

I agree with Smith however, far be it for me to defend Twenty20 but the shortest format has been quite good for spreading the associates' and women's game.

Yeah tbf I do remember that. Obviously WI won that one, but I didn't realise that was the last one, I thought that was 2 or 3 World T20s ago

- India wins the first with the infamous Misbah scoop
- 2nd goes to England when Mal Loye or was it Lumb played
- 3rd ???
- 4th Sri Lanka when Yuvraj played the worst t20 knock in the short history of the game
- 5th Ben Chokes

Have there been more?
