Yeah, Cazorla is nothing like the Diaby or Rosicky level. He wasn’t just a nice bonus if he was fit; he was the absolute heartbeat of the side for a good period of time.

So so underwhelmed by Emery.

Arsenal's decline over the last couple of seasons has properly coincided with Cazorla's injury. Baffling that Wenger hasn't replaced him properly.
I suspect the fact taht it was one of those typical Arsenal/Rosicky/Shane Bond type injures where the official prognosis was "hmmm, dunno, he'll probably only be out for a little bit longer. Not this week, maybe the next one". By the time everyone reailsed how serious the situation was his contract was winding down.

Rosicky did have that period where he was basically "the man" as well tbf, but it was much more short lived. Couple of months in the 2011-2012 season where he really pulled the team out of the mire on several occasions. I think people would remember his performances from around then a lot more favourably if he wasn' overshadowed by RVP being a colossus over the same period.

Agree RE: Emery. This is not the droid I was looking for.

Not boycotting then?

They may do, looks like the game will struggle to get over 40000.
God no, like last years Check-a-trade when we had about 45k go.

Amusing story today is that they’ve run out of first team shirts so have had to commission a new kit for the game.

I don’t really see the point of Emery. He’s not obviously good at any aspect of management and his teams mostly perform roughly to their level.

I’m hearing that the deal breaker was Arteta wanting a say in transfers. Sensible of them to say no, although the early signs for their current recruitment regime aren’t great either.

It's a total fudge.

The way I see it the two options were either (1) to try and get really high-end coach (or as high end as Arsenal could have hoped to attract), or (2_ take a punt on a relative unknown whose credentials suggest they might be worth a crack.

Emery is a nothing appointment. Neither one thing nor the other. Not elite, neither does he appear to have the potential to become such. It is, in many ways, one of the worst types of appointment they could have made imo (failing of falling into the trap of a Moyes style debacle). Can't see this going over especially well with the fans or players.

From what I understand Emery is quite pragmatic. But he's not even in the top tier of those type of coaches (Simeone, Allegri, Conte, Mourinho at his peak, etc). Really quite disappointed.

He would have made sense any time in the last ten or so years, when Wenger kept building title-capable squads then mismanaging them to 3rd and 4th placed finishes. At this point they're about as bad as they could be given their finances, so they might as well go for a manager with as high a ceiling as possible. Arteta would've been a pretty decent shout if the likes of Nagelsmann weren't interested.

They only have themselves to blame. It's been obvious that Karius is absolutely crap from day one. Should have replaced him ages ago.

Karius will never live this down, feel sorry for the fella, but he was never good enough. Klopp has got a lot right transfer wise, but not whatsoever regarding the keepers.

This is what happens when you spend the majority of your money on forwards and neglect one of the most important positions in any side. If you try to do things on the cheap you get what you deserve.
