It turns out that they had consulted three players, Eoin Morgan, who would sell his own grandma for a chance to play in some tinpot pyjama competition, Heather Knight and Daryl Mitchell, current head of the PCA - they also had canvassed Broad for an opinion. Mitchell it turns out was considerably less enthusiastic than the ECB implied and stated that he would have to consult the 700 or so players of the PCA.
Initial twitter mutterings are overwhelmingly negative. Chris Rushworth called it a ''load of bollocks''. Luck Wells and Chris Tremlett also criticised it. Anderson coincidentally discussed the threat of white-ball cricket to red-ball.
It turns out that by ''players'' what they really meant was that they'd managed to get an endorsing statement from Broad and Morgan to coincide with the announcement!
