***Official*** Australia in South Africa 2018

Heck of a series for South Africa :

Markram and Elgar brilliant, de Villiers back to his best, du Plessis got a tonne to finish, Bavuma had a good last test... de Kock looked back in some form and then Philander, Rabada and Morkel were superb, Maharaj was ok (and even if not at his best, still an improvement on the days of Boje and Harris) Philander and Maharaj scored useful runs down the order.

The loss of Morkel (and Steyn) won't be easy to replace, but there's plenty to choose from : Ngidi, Phehlukwayo, Parnell, Olivier....

Finally, the worst tour of all time is over.

Rest in peace Australian cricket, we knew you too long.

And ends with a run out.

Fantastic series pity about all the off field stuff. SA did everything just about right after the Durban test, could not ask for much more. Well done, boys.

someone should burn the sandpaper so we can have a second ashes

then whoever wins can hold aloft a trophy that has touched bancrofts penis

Well done SA. Isolation years could have made this sooner than 1970 that we won our last test series over Australia in SA.

Considering the team we had then

But these are the men they have matched. Kudos.

There is the India v SA debate, ''who is the best test team now'', but I can certainly say SA are in the best place right now of all the test nations. An assembly line of top class seamers and they seem to have sorted out any batting problems here (arrival of Markram, AB back) - best openers, Markram and Elgar?

Morkel what a great nice guy.... will miss him on and around the field. Hope he stays part of SA cricket for a good number of years even if not in the SA team.

Markram is MVP for me. Played such a huge role in seeing off the Aussie new ball threat and laying platforms. What was supposed to be a hole in the lineup turned out to be one of their biggest strengths.

Nah. Without Rabada's spell in the 1st innings at PE when Smith was set then this is a very, very, very different looking series

And Markram is coming to Durham. Cannot wait to watch him bat.

If Steyn does come back - big ''if' I know' - and you get two more years out of him, you'll have Steyn, Philander, Rabada and Ngidi. South African cricket is in a good place right now. The only negatives are an aging Amla and a question mark over Bavuma maybe.

People forget the importance of mental disintegration in test cricket.... this whole series turned to a large extent on that brutal session between Amla and Elgar at Port Elizabeth, just tiring the Aus attack before ABdV attacking 100....
Yeah this. Was hilarious to watch some of the experts on here criticise them for it too.

In terms of Test series where Australia win the first Test and it turns into a total on and off field disaster afterwards, this tour makes the 1981 Ashes look like a cakewalk.

And Smith was averaging 23 and Warner in the 30s so these two would've had to seriously ton-up in the 4th test to have come out with a good series. Nobody can really blame their absence then. Paine, Australia's batting genius.
