I think this is wrong, I think ICC's removed the NZ v Eng series from the predictor without updating the table - pretty sure we move up to 104 points with the series win. Can't remember for sure though.
Yes NZ are number 3. When did it occur last time?

Ish sodhi is a better test batsman than rohit Sharma BTW.

I think you're right. I remember checking prior to this series & being under that impression.

Just another reason it sucks to be CA atm. Pretty sure that's the first time in the ratings history we're been ahead of Aust in both Test and ODI ratings, at the same time. In fact could be the first time in Tests.

On the individual level, Sodhi's batting potential was talked about when he was first picked and then he didn't seem to improve at all over the last three years or so. Says he's been working on it, great to turn out a huge performance.

Wagner has also always looked a better tail-ender than his numbers suggest. Gets behind the ball better than any of our other tail-enders.
Yup, Wagner definitely has the best technique of the 3 and I'd have probably wanted him sent out ahead of Southee even if he'd been fit.

We were number 3 in 2015 after drawing in the UAE and beating Sri Lanka. Fell out of the top 3 after drawing the 2015 England series.

As bad as England were in the 1990s they could at least count on winning Test series in New Zealand.

The only Test country now where England have won their last away series against is South Africa; would put long odds on them winning in SA the next time they tour there under this regime.

Will Bayliss survive as Test coach? He'd be very lucky to do so.

We were ranked ahead of Aus in tests a few months ago, before the Ashes started.

Feels a lot more legit this time though!

Latham
Stoneman
Williamson*
Vince
Nicholls
Bairstow+
De Grandhomme
Astle

Root a little stiff, since Vince played 1 test.

Anderson unlucky too, but those other 3 seamers were better. Unless you drop Vince and play him.

Bayliss probably shouldn't keep coaching the test side, but good luck to whoever does get the gig; the standard of players coming through has been so mediocre for so long now, and there's precious little sign of improvement. Not that it matters to the guys running our game. As long as our pig's ear of a domestic system keeps them all in jobs, they don't really care. You'd hope that 58 all out would have set a few alarm bells ringing, but it probably won't.

All that being said, very well done NZ. Thoroughly deserved, as if it even needs saying.

Well done boys!

Is our next series vs pakistan away?

I'd like to see this team for the sub continent anyway.

Raval
Latham
Williamson
Taylor
Nicholls
Watling
Cdg
Sodhi
Astle
Wagner
Boult

No point picking southee in the sub continent anymore.
Pretty much have the best 5 bowlers in nz in that team.

You dropping Santa Claus, or anticipating he won't have recovered from injury?

Well done NZ on the series win. Love seeing gutsy tail end partnerships deliver a result for a team. So often you see them just fall short. That's just awesome stuff from Sodhi and Wagner.

I'm all aboard the dropping Southee in the subcontinent train. Santner should have a spot as an accurate spinner tied up there though, with Astle and Sodhi competing for the other spinner spot. Even if you think Santner is the worst of the spinners, 'stock spinner' is kind of a specialist role in the subcontentient a lot of the time, and it's not something I think Astle and Sodhi in the same attack could really offer at all.

Rankings time

Latham - 7 His 26 at Auckland was actually bloody valuable, and his innings today was excellent. But as ever, he keeps tossing it away...
Raval - 2 Really poor series, he had absolutely no clue against Broad and Anderson. Incredibly lucky to make it through last night, and then threw things away this morning.
Williamson - 7 Vital hundred at Auckland to set up the win, but a poor 2nd test here.
Taylor - 3 Disappointing series, was hoping for something big from him.
Nicholls - 7 His best ever innings at Eden Park which ensured NZ didn't waste a strong start. Went back to looking out of his depth at Christchurch.
Watling - 8 Really good return with the bat, and just the one tough drop behind the stumps. If his injuries persist the time may come for him to shift to being a specialist bat.
CdG - 8 Despite what sounds like a ghastly dismissal this was a great series for Lord Colin. Showed that he can bat time when the team needs it, and continued to prove his worth with the ball.
Southee - 9 His best series in aaaaaaaaages. Did a good support job for Boult at Auckland and took centre-stage here. His batting is also immensely improved this season, and his 50 was vital to soaking up time on day 3.
Wagner - 6 His showing at Eden Park was magnificent, removing 3 set batsmen when things were looking seriously dicey. The second test was the worst he's bowled in a long while, but he redeemed himself with that gutsy innings in the gloom.
Boult - 9 Obviously sensational at Eden, he was starting to look a little tired at Christchurch - the consequence of a season where he played almost every game possibly. Still, another brilliant showing.

Sodhi 4 - Is heroic as his innings was today, he's not in the team to bat. Disappointing, though he deserves some sympathy given KW's transparent lack of faith in him.
Astle 7 - Even if he took a couple of wickets with awful pies, Tastle did the business for his skipper when needed.
