After watching that tragic smith press conference, I hope the following new blood team kicks arse tomorow

Renshaw
Burns
Khawaja / Marsh
Handscomb
Maxwell
Marsh
Paine
Cummins
Static
Lyon
Hazelwood
Hope so.

But then maybe you want a shoot-out between Khawaja and S.Marsh... both need to step up

With maybe Zimbabwe and Bangladesh up next before India it could be ideal to know where you stand with them.

Marsh should be moved on fairly soon IMO, probably after this tour. Khawaja probably is on serious notice.

Had this not blown up Khawaja probably gets dropped for the 4th Test. I still see a place for him for home Tests but he's too much of a liability away from home to keep around.

Darsh probably needs a big score here to survive, but who replaces him if Khawaja goes too?

Who have we got to replace them? No-ones really being setting the Shield aflame.
Yeah after Handscomb and Maxwell there's not really much inspiring confidence. Maybe roll the dice on Doran? Give Ferguson a proper shot (he's 33 though)? I can't see them dropping both with Smith gone for a year.

Yeah, I think S.Marsh's career will go down as one of the most confusing.

Right now we probably have in mind who we feel should be in the team now. But it's probably down to selectors and the order is probably like the below at the moment. I'm pretty sure SA and Australia are going to India for an 'A' series if our agreement is still going so that could be interesting. But the problem may come in that Khawaja and S.Marsh were good last summer and generally are at home so the next batch have to prove they can be better.

Burns
Renshaw
Khawaja
Handscomb
S.Marsh
M.Marsh

Hughes
Weatherald
Maxwell
Head
Cartwright
Bailey

Weatherald and Doran probably aren't there yet but a good A tour or a good start to next season would definitely see them in the frame. And let's be frank, if you aren't going to experiment in off-season Tests at home against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe when three of your bats have been rubbed out, then you never will.

How do you place Maxwell 3rd on waiting list when he's already called up now?
Just a batting order for a shadow batting line-up. Not ranked 1-6 in order of preference.

BTW by the rumours those 3-6 batsmen were considered (Head, Cartwright, Bailey) and called up (Maxwell)

The opening situation could be of concern as 2 were ripped out but I actually think Renshaw and Burns can make a go of it so it shouldn't need to get to Hughes, Weatherald, Harris for a little while.

I have to admit there can not be to many more difficult tasks in cricket than get off the plane, acclimatize as best as possible; then open against Rabada, Philander, Morkel at the Wanderers.

To be fair, at least they're coming straight off a full season of FC cricket. Not like they're underdone.

Which is the best youi could hope for in the circumstances.... but its not the same as facing the best pace attack in the world at the Wanderers.

Yeah they'll be jetlagged AF in the third sessions each day. That's like 11PM-1:30AM Brisbane time or something.

We should have just sent more of Langer's boys (I'm kidding, don't crucify me).

I have no expectations for Australia in this match as most of the team will be mentally shot and wont want to be there

Can only hope that they bowl first, have them ease into the match and the heat is taken out of the atmosphere that way

Give Patti the new rock and hope for the best while preparing for a 3 day capitulation

Nah bat first so Renners and Burns can be awake for their innings. Can you imagine if they went in to bat when their body clock is telling them it's past midnight?

Meanwhile the Aussies are training and they requested the Wanderers played a playlist they gave loudly on the speakers while they do so.

Good grief Australia - on that play list, that's hammering out across the Wanderers as the Aussie team wrap up training - 'I will love you till I die' by the Seekers. It's really depressing.
