Baggy Green ball tampering: Bancroft, Smith and the Aussie "Leadership Group"

I am not too sure who played what role in this mess. One source had Warner as the initiator, Bancroft to execute the mess, and Smith as a captain who stood by and did nothing. If that is what happened, Smith should be stripped of the captaincy for being a (very) poor captain, but not face a ban as big is the culprit's.
Yes, if that is what happened then it's really terrible that Smith gets a year ban for being no more than a weak leader who couldn't control his teammates.

Excellent decision taking into account everything. Will send a very good message to all players out there. Sutherland showed some guts there in getting the ban period cover one of the most profitable series in their calendars.
I would like to inquire as to whether this is sarcastic or not?

Not if I make sure no one finds a corpse.

No admittedly I feel bad for Smith in he's probably going through the motions of asking how he was so stupid over the last week and probably hates his own guts right now. Hitler went through that and it didn't end well.

Get the feeling Smith or Warner might be back sooner than the ban suggests, I think it's adequate. Everyone else I've talked to in the real world thinks a life ban is in order.
I reckon you talk more **** than everyone else on here combined

Haven't you seen his posting before? Pretty sure he just logs on to be the poster child for anti-Australian extremism

**** that is **** !

Jim Maxwell says he has it on good authority that Warner was telling Bancroft what to do in the corner at Lunch and then Smith came and said what you guys doing and then before one answered he said I don't want to hear about it.

Smith is soft and the face of the Australian team being captain and is ultimately responsible as the leader but it is such a disgrace that one of the worlds best batsmen is going to have a 1-year ban next to his name.
Do you really think this happened?

Please!

It was a hair-brained scheme probably hatched by Warner and quite a few went along with it including at least one bowler

Bowlers choose the ball and decide how to treat it in every team that I've been involved with unless you have a Swami gifted in ball use

Chances of a couple of fielders going rogue are about zero

Smith is protecting others and if CA is honest, most of the team will be wiped out

Man that cloth thing was so ****ing stupid. Had they not done that, then Warner would have copped it but Smith would probably not be staring at this.

No other country will give a crap so who cares?

Spare a though for BANCROFT. Who doesn't exactly make the money and security Warner/Smith have in their careers so far.

I had the opportunity to interview Bancroft 18 months ago, at some length. Nice lad. Courteous. Thoughtful. Had played trumpet at high school. Cherished the opportunity to play The Last Post because of an uncle who had served in Vietnam. Interesting things to say. Said them well. Also desperately perfectionistic; to an almost disconcerting degree consumed by his career. The kind of young man who if asked by a coach would run through a brick wall; not the kind who would reply: “If the idea is to get to the other side, coach, why don’t I just walk around it?”

As we parted, I felt strangely worried for him. How would he cope if he did not achieve what he wanted? How would he cope if he did?

Cam Bancroft will be stood down anyway, by the ICC. He is both perpetrator and victim here, the junior in the team, the mule, the bag carrier. But that does not make hin an innocent, and he knows it. He is a professional sportsman.
Bancroft had to go ; he was the perpatrator. Last November , we laughed when he said he had the heaviest head in the West Australian team. If only a sliver of awareness could have penetrated that density now. He is an innocent, but not that innocent

so does the guy who let Bancroft and Smith do the press conference get fired because you don't have to be very clever to know they never should have done the presser
